Anambra State Government has called on the Federal Government to declare State of Emergency on Anambra State erosion Challenge.

Governor Willie Obiano made the call while welcoming the team from the Ecological Fund Office, Office of the President, Abuja, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.
Governor Obiano expressed worry that the state is shrinking daily, as a result of the numerous active erosion sites numbering over nine hundred and seventy two and urged the team to utilize aerial Map to assist in their documentation, pointing out that it will give an indept view of all the erosion sites in the state.
The Governor regretted that the sharing of the Federal Ecological Fund in parts of the country has not been in conformity with the number of erosion sites in the state, appealing to the federal government to work with the documents and recommendations of the inspection team.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Beautification and Ecology, Dr. Romanus Ejikeme, while giving the over view of the inspection tour, said that it is an insight survey of all the ecological and flood sites for the building of documents that will be employed for the release of fund by the federal government.
The Commissioner noted that the Ministry, in collaboration with the team from Abuja, has embarked on a week-long activities to ensure that all the erosion sites in the state are covered.
The Presidential Team headed by Engr. Amechi Onyeagba, appreciated the leadership qualities of Governor Willie Obiano and affirmed that Anambra State records high in erosion and flood menace and will be treated as special case as the team had observed loss of lives and properties in some of the sites visited .
