The ninth Lagos state Chief Imam, Sheikh Garuba Ibrahim Akinola, has passed away on Sunday, September 24 at Lagos State Teaching Hospital after a brief illness.

Akinola, who was appointed the Chief Imam in the year 2000, passed away at the age of 79.

Reacting to his death, the governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna said Akinola’s death is a huge loss to the state,
