Can somebody tell me why "High school" is graduation worthy of celebration in America while even First Degree is no longer news in Nigeria, I'm not understanding this one. Who can explain it to me.

You can get a job that pays you up to $40k per annum (provided you know what you're doing) with a high school diploma in America. Only 30% of adults are university educated- going to the university is a big deal. Big deal because you go there to actually learn, so you can apply what you learned to make even more money, especially in places that specifically require skill.

Meanwhile here in Nigeria, apart from the fact that we produce thousands of graduates who can't even defend their degrees, some companies pay university graduates peanuts. The kind of money illegal immigrants are making in the US. Going to the university is 'expected' for anyone that made it to SS3. You can hardly find any Nigerian that decides they want to just start work after secondary school. Unless they want to work in a factory or hotel.
