Independence Message To All Nigerian by abimbolabolaw(m): 1:43pm On Oct 01, 2017
Each year we celebrate our Independence Day as a tribute to the spirit of freedom and to the courage and sacrifices that countless men and women made. It is entirely due to their actions that we live as free people who enjoy natural legal rights and exercise our mandate thereby participating in the administration of our country. Naturally, a 57 years old human being ought to be a matured person with vast life experiences, wisdom, and achievement. But sadly, that has not been the case with Nigeria. Instead, Nigeria continues to stumble, flounder and fumble like a baby still learning to crawl. Fifty seven years later, Nigeria has not made any single development or progress, instead, the country is so deeply divided, fragmented and in serious crisis. Today, the issue of restructure, break-up, restoration of former Biafra republic, secession, and indivisibility, etc., are burning national issues.

Since independence, Nigeria has struggled to have an authentic leadership but to no avail instead she has always had the misfortune of falling into the hands of power conscious citizens owing to share incompetence and aspiration of her people. Nigeria in its 57 years of independence has been able to evolve a different kind of its own democracy. Ours is a democracy that thrive upon filth. Leaders are selected rather than elected, electorates are subjugated rather than liberated; and results of votes cast are cooked up in someone’s living room rather than collated from the honest votes of the electorates. Failed development visions, abandoned development programmes and policy summersault are common problems that militate against development in Nigeria. They are products of corruption and political leadership ineptitude that characterize the country. These factors combine to mastermind underdevelopment and a failed Nigerian state.

We need to note that even if we feel that our nation is a completely failed nation through the actions and or inactions of our leaders who feel there is a guaranteed continuous existence in power even if they do not deliver good governance, we can bounce back to vibrant and enduring nation and we can only be resilient enough if we believe that the gate to our relief is widely open come 2019, and we are willing to take our common destiny into our hands by changing the status quo. The youths should take interest in political matters. They must stop being complacent and nonchalant in the politics of this country. You cannot change what did not touch, therefore if the political atmosphere of Nigeria will change for the good, the youths must be actively involved in politics. They must come out to vie political position with the bid to set good examples and create a lasting legacy which others will follow. The time has come for action. It is time to make Nigerian a great country for us and the future of our unborn children.

Nigeria can neither be described, in large part, as a well-governed state nor can we argue that the way public institutions are administered add completely to her development. We should turn humble enough to adopt a system that allows the Nigerian state to maximize the basic human values extractable from the greatest number of people possible. We should work towards a nation responding incisively to challenges and creating dynamic opportunities, a nation whose leaders explore the multiplicity of change and realistic independence. A nation that rewards state-building conducts, prune harmful behavioral practices and dwell less on status quo (characterized by deceitful charades of public officers), while exhibiting a denser tendency for a capable future. A nation whose leaders, without any further professional self-deceit, go down the route of transformative leadership as well as encourage shared prosperity.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY.
