– Labour Party (LP) convention has sacked Abudulkadir AbdulSalam, the former chairman of LP

– Calistus Okafor, the party’s national vice chairman said AbdulSalam was sacked because he allegedly contravened various sections of the constitution

– Okafor said the former chairman allegedly embezzled over N1.3 billion party fund

Mike Omotosho, the former governor of Rotary International, on Tuesday, October 3, emerged as the new chairman of Labour Party (LP) while Abudulkadir AbdulSalam, the former chairman, was sacked.

NAIJ.com gathered that Calistus Okafor, the deputy chairman who presided over the convention, said AbdulSalam was removed for embezzling over N1.3 billion party fund.

Okafor noted that he also contravened various sections of the constitution but the case of theft and diversion of party fund has been reported to the police.

Omotosho, the new party chairman, however, said the members of LP must embrace best practises and honesty in their dealings as a party.

He said: ”Since I have extracted your commitment, I want to say that the right change is coming to this party of the people.

”I sincerely believe we can produce the next president of this country. But we cannot continue to do things the same way and expect a different result.

”We must embrace best practises and honesty in our dealings as a party at all level. I assure you that this party shall never remain the same again.”

Ebere Ifendu Esq, the publicity secretary of the party, who spoke on the change of guards, expressed confidence that ”this necessary repositioning will rightly put the party as a major contender in the coming elections”.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that Ayuda Wabba, NLC president, received the party’s documents from the former national chairman, Dan Nwanyanwu in Abuja on Thursday, July 30.
