There was a break of peace on Tuesday as individuals from the National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) Ekiti commercial drivers on rampage over arrest of colleague by Fayose, the state governor

The drivers were upset that Ahmed Kolo, a driver, was captured and summoned for purportedly being insulting/rude to the governor.

Mr. Kolo was said to have driven rashly against Mr. Fayose on September 24 when the senator drove himself to Ajilosun area in Ado Ekiti.

He was promptly charged at the Ado Ekiti Magistrate's court for the traffic offense.

The union guaranteed that the arraignment was against a guaranteed promise made by the governor that he had forgiven the driver.

The protest which began on Monday ended up noticeably savage with the dissenting drivers setting campfires on the highways.

"One of us was shot at Ajilosun near Fayose market. It is highly unlikely we won't revenge the murdering. We are even going to burn down police headquarters if that boy dies," a driver who decides to be anonymous told reporters on Tuesday.

The Secretary to the State Government, Modupe Alade also speak about the Ekiti commercial drivers on rampage over arrest of colleague saying the arraigned driver was disrespectful to the governor and refused to apologize, saying his activity came about to his capture and arraignment for a traffic offense.

“This driver drove recklessly against the convoy and he was arrested,” she said.
“Rather than apologizing, he was rude to the governor.
“The governor asked them to come and apologize, but they refused.
“The governor as a no-nonsense person who won’t tolerate any threat from
anybody. And not until he apologized, he won’t be released.”

The Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Alberto Adeyemi, said no one was shot.

"Give me a chance to influence it to clear, no one was shot by our men and we have not captured anyone. We are exchanging words with the authority of the driver unions and we are certain that the issue will be settled soon," he stated.
