They should be grateful it wasn't a consecrated wine.

The guys just drank an ordinary wine. The wine is not holy until its consecrated (that is if the wine was even meant for the sacrifice of the holy mass in the first place because the church has a sacristy for keeping things like this, not in the priest's house).

If they flexed the consecrated wine, testimonies and experiences has it that something worse would've happened.

Thank God for the priest's safety.

the mixture of water and wine has symbolic meanings, if you know the prayer said during the mixing you will notice it symbolises the hypostatic union, I.e the union of the divine nature with the human nature....

but the practice itself comes from Judaism which mandate that drops of water should be mixed with wine to dilute it, and was part of the passover practices at the time of Christ.
