"Now without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who diligently search for him." (Heb 11:6, ISV)

Ever wondered how a prostitute like Rahab became a hero of faith? It's because she acknowledged the existence and supremacy of God, and acted based on that belief.

Looking at the story of Rahab, we can see that she wasn’t an Israelite but a Canaanite. However, she had heard of the great things God had done among the Israelites, and she was convinced that He was the supreme God. She knew that if this God had promised Israel the land of Canaan, He would surely give it to them. When Israel sent spies into her country, she hid them.

Hear what she told them, ‘I know that the LORD has given you this land. Everyone in the country is terrified of you. We have heard how the LORD dried up the Red Sea in front of you when you were leaving Egypt. We have also heard how you killed Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan. We were afraid as soon as we heard about it; we have all lost our courage because of you. The LORD your God is God in heaven above and here on earth.’ (Joshua 2:9-11,GNB)

Because she believed that Israel’s God was the supreme God, and acted to please Him by helping the spies escape detection, this prostitute was listed among the heroes of faith in Heb 6:31. In fact, she was seen as righteous by God because of what she did!

Apostle James asks, ‘was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? ’ (James 2:25, NIV)

Rahab heard, she believed and then she acted on that belief. That is faith, the only way to please God.

God bless you!
