not all inventions require finance there are lot more that don't and there are lots of inventors abroad too that funded their invention by themselves. these professors only collect large salaries with nothing to show for it. you sound like a son of a lecturer anyway

Please mention any professor with inventions that use his money as research grant to fund his/her inventions

This isn't self-hate, you focused only on the afro issue... it's far much worse than that!

These ["mode of dressing" and other stupid] rules popping up across Nigerian universities and even in government agencies is direct proof that our secular Constitution is nothing but a piece of paper. Our country is a de facto religious republic. Religion has hijacked ALL levels of leadership in the country and this is the effect.

The fact that most people see nothing wrong with this blatant disregard of basic rights to freedom of expression guaranteed by our Constitution and that the ministry of education and NUC keep mum about such issues clearly shows the rot in our society due to religion.

Education standards, creativity, and individual self expression will nose-dive. We are basically planning to make our next generation very dumb people who expect orders and can't think for themselves - completely lacking in critical thought. They say our average IQ is 67, it will probably be 42 at the end of the century grin grin

This is what religion does to a nation when taken to the extreme.

I dispense praise sparingly but I have to say about your contribution: Excellent!

What's irresponsible about Afro hair?

I don't get why a school in Africa would ban afro. I thought that was our thing?

**Its just misplaced priorities!
3rd world mentality.

They don't even think about going after the really irresponsible people.. Like the Randy lecturers and the extorters.

but they are better and more important and more human than you, your family and your generation combined. Nigerians are so foolish. that's why you have graduates that can't speak good English, can't invent anything,no innovation but only a lunatic would think those ones are better than Bill Gates,Zuckerberg, etc
I think the issue here is not just beards but unkempt beards with outrageous hair styles n ladies wearing sexually provocative dress, pls these are youths that need to have some of their excesses checkmated, they can choose to live whatever life styles they pleased after school, but for now the school authority is right in what they did that's my take.

Oko, Anambra State, Nigeria.

The management of Federal Polytechnic Oko Anambra State has issued a statement through the examination committee prohibiting its female students from wearing trousers and the male students from keeping beard, afro or grown hair during the examination.
In what seems to be move to ensure absolute compliance to directives , the School's Anti -cult unit has been mandated to prevent defaulting students from accessing the examination halls.

Reacting to the new development, a student from Department of Mass communication who identified himself as Ikenna described the move as "senseless, oppressive and uncalled for". He further described the new management of the polytechnic and in fact some of the lecturers as agents of oppression. In his words "I don't know what the new acting Rector wants to turn the school into. I don't know if they wants to turn this higher institution into a secondary school? About a month ago one of the lecturers slapped the SUG president for just no cause. They even once mandated everyone to wear the school polo or departmental polo to the examination centers especially at Mass com exam center but the SUG gave it a fight"

Reacting to the issue Chidimma, an ND2 female student from Office Technology department advised that the actions of some of the lecturers and even the anti cult should be checkmated.
"Here is like a jungle were the lecturers and the anti cult are gods. A lecturers will force you to buy his half baked textbooks at exorbitant prices, some will even slap you and threaten you with carryover if you dare ask for your rights. The anti cult once you get reported to them, pounce on the student without questioning. The government should look into the abuse of power going on here."

The Students' union Government of Federal Polytechnic Oko is yet to react on the matter.

What do you expect when you have a deeper lifer as a rector grin

Regulating hairstyle is not discipline. It does not change someone's criminality level. It will not make him not to steal money when he becomes a politician tomorrow. Outside Nigeria that they are not regulating hairstyle is still better than here are everybody is barbing skull and lowcut.

Let me ask u point blank,

what is the discipline in regulating hairstyle

Please answer.

Ok o. Anyhow you see it o but answer this simple question first can you rock an afro, dreadlock etc as a soldier while on duty even though it's not wrong?
Ok o. Simple answer..no. Why?...a university student, banker, doctor, lawyer, construction worker, .... you name it.... are all civilians..... have rights... right to free speech, right to congregate, right to be represented by a lawyer, religious rights, the right to protest, etc..... when you sign up with the military...become a soldier.... those rights do not exist....you are no longer under civilian rules and regulations and freedom.... you are under military rules...and will face military justice should you violate their rules.

so ladies wearing trouser a guy with clean beard or Afro hair looks irresponsible to you? No one cares about the quality of education of these schools. Young people who Sud be allowed to be dynamic in thoughts and ideas are oppressed in our schools. Meanwhile when they got admission and paid their school fees this wasn't the rule in the school. Now that they are in the rule book has changed. Mschew.

Madam if you went to school and you signed the matriculation oat, there is always a clause which say that students shall abide by the rules lay down by the school authority or as deemed fit by the rector or vc. So it doesn't matter whether you like the rule or not or they are in the book or not
