ECONOMIC RANKING: LAGOS, DELTA, RIVERS EMERGE MOST COMPETITIVE
source : http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2017/11/economic-ranking-lagos-delta-rivers.html

Lagos State has been ranked the most competitive state in terms of human capital, infrastructure, economy and institutions among the states of the federation with Borno and Gombe States in the north coming last on the ranking list.
The ranking released by the National Competitiveness Council of Nigeria (NCCN) yesterday, is the first ever National Competitiveness Report and Sub-National Index, ranking all 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)across four key areas: Human Capital, Infrastructure, Economy and Institutions.
Lagos State came out on top, followed closely by Delta and River States, while Borno and Gombe States ranked 36th and 37th respectively in the index. The financial capital of Nigeria fared best in the areas of Infrastructure and Economy, while northern states Borno and Zamfara lost significantly in the area of Human Capital – plagued by issues with healthcare and education.
According to the report gathered by Eyes Of Lagos, all of the states performed strongly in at least one of the four broad themes, and 23 indicators. The new Sub-National Index presents a significant platform for research and discussion, elevating the national conversation about moving Nigeria away from crippling oil dependency, and embracing a diversified economy with sustainable market-based development. The report also emphasizes the importance of competitiveness at the state level, highlighting local and state governance, and the vital role each state plays in the overall path to job-rich growth.
NCCN chief executive, Matthias Chika Mordi said, “In aggregate, Nigeria remains challenged in its competitiveness. We expect the SNI to have a catalytic effect in competitive state policies which will ultimately lead to greater business productivity, resulting in job creation and poverty reduction.”
The NCCN said it collected data for its unprecedented report in collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and private surveying agencies. The organisation conducted a household survey across all 36 states and the FCT, resulting in a sample of 8,147 households.
They also conducted a business climate survey, collecting information from two thousand (2000) private business establishments chosen at random, and using probability proportional to size (PPS) within each sector. Out of this number, 1820 businesses responded to the survey, representing a 91 per cent response rate.
“The index is a culmination of 20 months of intense work. We have worked rigorously to ensure objectivity and transparency in our methodology data collection, analysis and interpretation. Where possible we applied effective tools for cross-validation, and ease of replicability. It is by no means perfect, but we envisage improvements with subsequent iterations of the index,” Mordi stated.

OP, you mean none of our "hardworking" states presently with same league as China and US is among? This report must have been cooked by an afonja. Our states are very blessed with hardworking people, even shuku kerewawa knows, stop being tribalistic. Infact, see our 20 carriage roads. grin grin

in summary, Delta and rivers are the two most developed and most competitive states in nigeria going by indigenous effort.

Lagos State was developed by using our oil and diverting our tax money after mandating all oil company to move over their headquarters. Lagos development is not ingenious because the indigenes of Lagos didn't contribute much compared to this two states.

The economy of Lagos is run by ibos and people from the south south. We pray for the false economy of Lagos State, it doesn't collapse after Nigeria referendum.

look at the index used for the ranking. if you travel outside the south south like I have travelled to the west, east and middle belt you will concur. Delta has better infrastructures and human capital development. Do you know the poverty in most states and civil servants salary outside is nothing?

we must be grateful to God even though we are sad that okowa and uduaghan are failures. Delta as a state has excelled beyond the two failures. They are not the yardstick for measuring delta

do you know where the founders of the following companies come from?

Fidelity Bank
zenith Bank
defunct oceanic bank
Sheraton hotel
ikeja hotel
vanguard
guardian newspaper
vitamilk

They are all deltans. There are still many more unlisted. like the ibrus shipping line.

now let the ibos list how many companies ibos founded and control or let other people from other south south states list companies founded by their indigenes, you will realize the truth is that you are lazy. The ibo control trade e.g alaba market. This ur photo of "ibo gala hawkers" and absence of Yoruba market shows indigenous people are lazy

ekiti state pays a newly employed teacher N20,000 and currently owes them. This explains why you see old generation structure litter the state. A modern teacher in ekiti, ondo, osun, Benue, etc can't afford to build a house. But some teachers in Delta do build houses and own modern car. That is what you call human capital development. The average take home can at least help you look like a modern human
