Should States Prioritize Increase Of IGR Or Infrastructures ? by Desyner: 10:33am On Nov 03, 2017
Seeing the challenges that states are going through in the past 3 years since oil prices dipped and Federation Account Allocation FAA also followed suite, I noticed some states that aren't doing so well in basic obligations like salary, road maintenance are churning out projects at an alarming rate still. these states wouldn't be defaulting salary payment if they have a robust IGR (internally Generated Revenue).

This has lead me to ask the question of which should be prioritized above the other? Massive infrastructure and crippling loans to achieve infrastructural revolution at the expense of recurrent expenditure like salaries?

OR

Increase in IGR to help gradually grow infrastructures and moderate loans to maintain reasonable progress in infrastructural growth?

1. The idea of increasing IGR and gradually growing our infrastructure is the best mode of running government.
2. Due to the kind of political system we run in Nigeria, every political party is judged based on performance.
3. If a political party is unable to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people due to low IGR, the masses will vote out such party.
4. Smart political parties will rather incure huge debts so as to fix the deficit in infrastructure, because the people only believe what they see and not the salaries that go into peoples pockets.
5. Since government is a continuum, successive governments are expected to build on the existing plan towards the development of their respective states.
6. I believe every state should have a short, mid, and long term development plan which political parties must fit into.

Wishing you a great day! grin

Focus more on creating platforms that will enable the people to earn more cash.

As the people make more money, they will be able to contribute more tax which in turn will build up the IGR of the states.

Also the Governors should encourage the people to form Community Development Unions that will help improve infrastructural development of the states while the Governors encourage them through state awards.

Great points. Your Point :The people want immediate result and the leaders give them, but I think we the people who understand things better should press for a balance between both.

Nigeria and ego things, suffering their poor masses in the name of growing IGR, the more the IGR of a state is growing the poorer the resident of that state.
When a state government is collecting oxygen tax, tenament tax, environmental tax, road usage tax, walking on the road tax, breathing tax.
Who is bearing the brunt and how is it helping parents that is supose to send their children to school with all this money ripped from them by the government in the name of IGR nonsense.
Government should focus on creating wealth instead stealing poor masses money in the name of increasing IGR.
How many state government have a means of creating wealth, their knowledge of increasing IGR is chasing the poor masses from pillar to post.

Growing infrastructure would lead to an increase in IGR.
That's common sense.
