Having known that the presence of the Nigerian Police Force is to protect the lives and the properties of the citizens of Nigeria which they have been doing, it is very unfortunate that some Policemen were unable to differentiate themselves from armed hoodlums by their actions on 27th October 2017 in Ifako Ijaiye.
The recent tragic scene that happened on that friday night at around 9:30pm to 11:00pm in some parts of Ifako Ijaiye (College Road especially) when some squad of Policemen from Pen Cinema Police Division, Agege AKA Chinese Rub, abandoned their Agege territory and moved to Ifako Ijaiye to threaten residents through unlawful arrest coupled with act of barbarity as they broke bottles, destroyed properties in some shops, forcefully arrested people in compound and a barber’s shops at adeyeri crescent, threatened women with battery and verbal assault. They came with more than 5 big commercial vans to arrest almost 100 residents and many sustained severe injury after release with no offence attached.
Yesterday 2nd November 2017, around 9:30pm the same squad from Pen Cinema Police Division, Agege, Lagos came with the same format of many commercial buses to unlawfully and forcefully arrest residents in their homes, compounds, shops, streets without any reasonably offence before we later heard that the Area Commander enforced their release based on limited space to occupy almost hundred they brought again.
The alarming rate of this violation of the Ifako Ijaiye residents’ human rights by The Police most especially the Pen Cinema Police Division, Agege is highly criticized and should be stopped with all necessary measures.
There are several Police Divisions in Ifako Ijaiye but none has posed harassment on us than these people. They should be sensitized to their primary duty as Police which is to protect lives and properties of citizen and not to threaten or assault citizens.
We are reporting this so that the uncultured and unprofessional display for duty should stop so that these people will not create bad image for The Nigerian Police and The Federal Republic of Nigeria in general. All necessary legal actions have been taken either.
Thanks for reading.
