I graduated with a degree in marine engineering in June. Getting a job as an engine cadet is very difficult. I applied to over a 1000 companies before I graduated and I was only able to get one job and that was from an NGO. In Nigeria I don't think there's any shipping company that doesn't have my CV in their database. It's very difficult to get a marine engineering job. There are people who have been waiting for more than 5 years without any break and now with the fall of crude oil prices and shipping companies churning out losses expect the unemployment in the sector to continue for a very very long time.

Ships are going to start being autonomous soon too so that factor will also lead to more unemployment.
