The US president ‘hurt the dignity of the supreme leadership’ when he criticised Kim Jong-un’s regime during a visit to South Korea, newspaper Rodong Sinmun said.

As a result, he deserves the death penalty, the editorial suggested.

It read: ‘The worst crime for which he can never be pardoned is that he dared (to) malignantly hurt the dignity of the supreme leadership.

‘He should know that he is just a hideous criminal sentenced to death by the Korean people.’
The article also accused Trump of cancelling a visit to the border because he was ‘too scared to face the glaring eyes of our troops’.

In fact, the trip was called off due to inclement weather, according to the White House.

The incendiary comments follow Trump’s visit to South Korea where he denounced the regime north of the border as a ‘cruel dictatorship’.

During his tour of Asia, Trump has attempted to unite the continent’s powers against Kim in a bid to end the isolated nation’s nuclear weapons programme.

And his war of words with the North Korean leader took a bizarre turn when Trump tweeted that he is trying ‘so hard to be his friend’.
