The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the appointment of Prof. Moji Adeyeye as the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.

The appointment of Adeyeye, a professor of Pharmaceuticals, Manufacturing Science and Drug Product Evaluation, College of Pharmacy, Roosevelt University, United States, was announced on Tuesday.

Her appointment, which takes effect from November 3, is for the initial term of five years.

Commending Buhari for appointing Adeyeye a [pharmacist] as the new NAFDAC DG, the PSN President, Ahmed Yakasai, said in a statement, “President Buhari has made good on his promise and pharmacists are glad!

“Adeyeye is a Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Science, Academic Research Fellow of American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy. Indeed, she’s a round peg in a round hole.

“Today, registered pharmacists have resolved to maximally support NAFDAC to achieve its safety margin in the regulation of the food and drug sector of the economy.”

The appointment of is always well deserved. Not fitting a square peg in a round hole. The last DG too boasted of an impeccable profile but his political willingness was a question, either he stepped into a big shoe or we just did not hear anything about the agency effort or he was just another civil servant. This agency is a goldmine for anybody who is greedy because many fake drug manufacturers are willing to dole out huge stacks of cash to evade government watchdogs.
