A group of Fulani youths have kicked against the anti-open grazing law

- The group in a statement said if the law is not suspended immediately it could puncture peaceful coexistence

- They also appealed to President Buhari to call the governors of the two states who passed the law to order

A Fulani youths group under the aegis of Jonde Jam Fulani Youth Association of Nigeria (JAFUYAN) have kicked against the recent anti-open grazing law passed by Benue and Taraba State governments, Channels TV reports.

The group in a statement on Tuesday, November 21, by Saidu Maikano, its national president said the law, if not suspended immediately, could puncture peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

NAIJ.com gathered that the group also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to call the governors of the two states, Samuel Ortom and Darius Ishaku to order.

Maikano further raised the alarm that the cattle belonging to his members are dying of hunger because they can’t go grazing in the areas where grazing is banned.

He said it is unconstitutional for any governor in the country to restrict movement of Fulani herdsmen who are naturally nomadic in the quest for their daily livelihood.

The Fulani youth leader said: “This may even cause religious crisis because the two governors that enacted the anti-grazing law are Christians, while other states governed by Muslims are not interested in the law. We are therefore asking President Muhammadu Buhari to call both Benue and Taraba States governors to order.

“If this is not done immediately, it may plunge the country into crisis and undue hardship among the generality of the people.”

NAIJ.com previously reported that the Nigeria police arraigned a herdsmen before a Makurdi chief magistrate court for open grazing, criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, culpable hom*cide and illegal possession of firearms.

According to Channels TV, the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Imo Edward, told the court that on November 2, 2017, at about 07.30pm, the DPO Logo Division received a distress call from the unit commander police mobile force 13 squadron on special duty at Ayilamo.

#CommercialCattleRanching is the solution to all the violence, and if properly implemented could lead to international dairy/beef corporations.

Imagine Dangote patnering with the herdsmen to build ranches and export cornbeef, and powdered milk. Our Igbo traders would then distribute it round Nigeria, and even to South Africa and Ghana, bringing in bardly needed foreign exchange...

Many years of being pampered have made these devilish herdsmen start to feel too entitled , if they are not prepared to ranch theu can take their cattle to the endless Falgore or Sambisa forest which both have enough vegetation and acreage to support any kind trekking and roaming grazing the Fulani are after ...I also call on middle belt and Southern states to threaten to place a ban on the sale or consumption of beef if Fulanis cant adhere to anti grazing laws.

Clowns buhari is not coming to save you. Start ranching or do business elsewhere. How is the law going to end peaceful coexistence unless you plan on being violent? Who cares what there religion is. The laws aren't motivated by religion.

Fulani youths should leave threatening language commonly associated with the deranged cownu and address the issues with wisdom. The clashes between herdsmen and farmers are needles and can be avoided through orderly grazing not random unorganized movement of cattles.

Nigerians are increasingly calling for boycott of cow meat because they want commercial ranching as a peaceful solution, and now realize there are several alternatives to beef, including edible mushrooms, goatmeat, ram, etc.
I plead with the Federal Government to give herdsmen financial grants to buy lands for irrigated commercial ranches so that there is no boycott of cow meat.
Even if goat meat should overtake cow meat, let it be as a result of business competition not angry boycott by Nigerians

These guys are going to be shocked when ranchers take market share away from them. There's no monopoly on cattle rearing. You just need a few hecters some hay and irrigation.

Oh so you think we dont know that Fulani power lies in the sale of Beef ? Just like conflict diamonds were labeled blood diamonds and their sale banned to stop diamond fueled conflict so can Fulani conflict beef be banned in southern states to stem conflict beef driven bloodshed ..The Fulanis are nothing without the sale of Beef

know how much it will cost to start a cattle ranch? The breeds of cows in Nigeria will not give higher yields if they are ranched and will not be cost effective. We should also remember that majority of the nomadic Fulani are peace loving. It will surely take time and a lot of resources before they can be integrated into modern ranching. The Federal and State Government should come up with modalities to registered and properly tracked the members of Mayetti Allah Cattle rearer association. All stakeholders should also be educated on peaceful coexistence while culprits are promptly punished. Joint security outlets should be established to handle armed herdmen. Then we can have a holistic framework to develop ranches all over the country

Those against Anti Open Grazing law have evil intentions. If not why will a sane human being with brain opposes ranging? Do this people know that ranging will be beneficial for them? How is moving cows from one place to another, and in worst cases on peoples farm the best method of cow rearing? To tell you the truth, those opposed to ranging have ulterior motives. And their ulterior notices are political and religious in nature.

The biggest excuse these fulanis give when they go about spreading their gospel of violence and blood is that their cows were rustled (stolen). Yet here is a govt in Benue trying to arrest the situation by properly ranging cows to ensure security and minimize the issue of cow rustling as it is done in developed countries, but here they are rejecting it. Do these fulanis know that that moving cows from one place to another is dangerous especially when they move through the bushes and wilderness? You move your cows in the forest and expect your cows will never be stolen, is that not madness? What about people who travel by road, are they not being roped daily by armed robbers? Are traders not being rope daily on the road? When was the last time we heard of travellers wiping villages because they have been roped of their valuables by armed robbers? Am sure nothing like this has never happened. But we have heard countless Case's of fulanis swiping villages because their cows (as they claim) were stolen. So people have do die because their cows were rustled? So herdsmen are special brand of people who must never be roped? Fulani herds men sense of entitlement must stop!! Cow rearing is a business and they must formalize their business through ranching or go back to Senegal where they came from. Cow rearing is not more important than shop owner or a footseller.

Their destroying farmlands and livelihood, raping women, maiming and killing breadwinners, mothers, widows, children and orphans wont set the nation on crisis, but cattles and cows starving would!
They should tell us something!!

Why will they not do cry,cry baby to Buhari when these barbaric brutes in human form have wrought some much human & material havoc since their demigod unfortunately ascended the presidency of this country?
Global best practice from antiquity in animal husbandry is the use of the ranching system but the foolanis have been using the open grazing trend as a means to just carry on the Jihad where their forefathers left it.
Sambisa forest is free for you guys to use according to the APC government.Bunch of mofos. angry

Stop joking that's false. Every bread of cattle does better in ranch. When cattle move past 5-10 they lose weight because they're burning calories. The diary market is low in Nigeria is low for similar reason.

You are wrong. Ranching already works very well in parts of the South. The refusal to adopt it more widely is politicizing the cattle business. Pity!

Effects of the symbolisms around. When the physical and spiritual structures are in your favour you feel entitled to some special rights.

Time to dismantle structures that promote one tribe over the other. That's what we are talking about here:

True. But this not a good justification for the law. I think an argument for peace is a better one because whether or not we believe ranching is economically better, no one should be able to change other people's lifestyle by force because they think it is "better for them". Even worse when you are not part of the group whose lifestyle would be changed. But if you argue based on peace, then you are forced to focus on dealing with the problem- the killings (http://creatrs.media/herdsmen-state-control-1-million-illegal-guns-nigeria/).
