The training workshop for professionals themed "Advising Clients on Participation in the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme" held yesterday at the Federal Palace Hotel, V.I, Lagos.

The event conducted by the Ministry of Finance had in attendance the Honourable Minister, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, Executive Chairman of Lagos and Ogun State Revenue Service, Mr Ayodele Subair and Mr. Kunle Adeosun. The event also had in attendance dignitaries and participants from several works of life.

Our Facilitators included Prof. Abiola Sanni, Professor of Law, University of Lagos, Mr. Yomi Olugbenro, Lead Partner, Tax and Regulatory Services, Deloutte, Mr. Peter Ukonu, Financial Derivatives Company, Mr. Ayo Salami, Tax Partner, KPMG, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Partner PWC and Mr. Albert Folorunsho, Partner Pedabo. Insights on the legal framework of VAIDS, the implication of the Automatic Exchange of Information for Nigeria, data mining and practical guidelines for participating in this tax amnesty scheme were provided by our Facilitators

The Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) is an initiative designed to encourage voluntary disclosure of previously undisclosed assets and income for the purpose of payment of all outstanding tax liabilities. The workshop deployed a participatory approach in which different scenarios were used to teach different categories of professional participants their specific roles and expectations from the Federal Ministry of Finance.
