The European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) proposed a lecture tour for the first time in Africa region and two of Nigeria premier Universities jointly hosted the event. Fifteen locations in Europe and further six in Africa were earmarked to host this year’s event.
The lectures are given by industry-based professionals and therefore an asset for the development of Nigerians geoscientists and engineers. The main objective of the lecture includes provision of industry focused knowledge on geosciences and engineering related topics.
The lecturer tour was hosted in Mountain Top University on Friday 24th November, 2017 and the guest lecturer was Prof. Dr. Hesham El-Kaliouby who is a is a professor of Geophysics in the National Research Center (NRC) of Egypt and has served as a Postdoctoral Researcher for the University of Arizona, USA from 2002-2004.
The whole event was initiated and followed up by Prof. Elijah Ayolabi, Vice Chancellor Mountain Top University and Mr. Ambrose M Ogbuike, EAGE Program Officer from the University of Lagos. The event was highly attended by over 500 delegates from across Nigeria Universities, oil and gas companies and information technology sectors. In his speech, the Vice chancellor of mountain Top University, Prof. Elijah Ayolabi eulogies EAGE for the lecture tour, commended the delegates and challenge all to take geoscience in Nigeria to the next level.
The lecture reviewed the principles of frequency and time-domain electromagnetic techniques and their applications through some case studies from applied research projects, which implemented the electromagnetic induction methods for near surface-related problems with a focus on the application of these techniques in environmental and engineering studies with objectives which encapsulates a review of the basics of electromagnetic methods; development of basic understanding of how measurements of electromagnetic techniques can be used to provide information about the electrical properties of the subsurface; development of critical thinking skills and an appreciation of the points of strength and limitations of the different electromagnetic methods when applied to environmental and engineering studies and provision of familiarity with the use of these electromagnetic methods in engineering, geotechnical, hydrological, mineral resources and other environmentally related near surface investigations.

Very well articulated. Let me add that it was joint effort of three universities. It amazes me why EAGE Ebonyi state university student chapter was excluded. Nevertheless it was a great time with Professor Hasham. We look forward to greater collaborations
