Re: See What These Two IMSU First Class Graduates Received At Their Induction. by Nobody: 7:22am On Dec 05, 2017 |
What else did you expect them to receive? Money? In most countries the private sector sets up an award to give the best graduates money or employment reward. That's not the university's job. This entitlement mentality prevents some first class graduates from going far in life. While they're there sitting and waiting for people to recognize them, their third class colleagues are working hard and progressing. 1 Like |

BeeBeeOoh:Not only Nigeria, the world itself doesn't recognize academic excellence. If youre are observant you'll discover that guys in the sports, entertainment, business, media sector and some other sectors are highly noticed why nobody even knows the top guys in academic sector. The fact is the world doesn't really care about academic success 1 Like |

And so? How will someone go to the university and read medical lab science in today's Nigeria? I remember a Doctor interacting with me at an hospital that the course has no relevance in the hospital setting. They are not doctors, nurses, microbiologist that works in the lab or even wardmaids that attend to nurses. They better prepare for the reality of life after school! Or maybe they hope to work in the bank or NNPC |

matrixme:Haha are You been serious with this you just said "How will someone go to the university to study medical laboratory science in today's Nigeria"?......My brother go and check JAMB of last year and see how many are struggling to get in. In today's Nigeria, it's a HOT course that it's difficult to get now. "they are not doctors, nurses, When you say they have no business in the hospital my brother your case weak me but I won't lecture you for free I'd rather you go back and ask properly your doctor friend what course he was actually talking about. And don't say this outside, microbiologists are not in any hospital lab. These are the people who control the activities of the lab not the microbiologists. The reality of life after school is that they become Big boys through internship as they automatically become independent and they can even start a life even before going for NYSC. He say bank or NNPC My brother you think a B.MLS degree is one of those useless degrees flying out there? Even if they want to work in a bank or NNPC my brother its still their medical facility. 4 Likes |

nelszx:May be you are smarter than a top doctor in one of the foremost government hospitals in Lagos. You're only trying to give yourself hope. Better a guy goes for nursing than medical lab science because till tomorrow nursing is still very lucrative around the world and locally, especially if everyone can't study medicine and surgery. |

matrixme: Hahahahaha sorry oo you mean a doctor in a government hospital told you this? Did you know the salary of the MLS including pharmacists, physiotherapists etc is second to that of doctors and nurses is just a level down. Nursing lucrative than MLS, interesting go back to that government hospital or any of your choice and ask where the bulk of their IGR comes from (what you get will shock you). Both in public and private practice nursing is nowhere lucrative than MLS. This is not a statement of hope but a statement of fact except your doctor friend is talking about SLT. My brother the guys who man hospital labs are not microbiologists but MLS. B.MLS is an internationally recognised professional degree where you practice anywhere in the world. Instead of spewing rubbish why not browse and see what your doctor friend told you is true or not instead of swallowing everything hook, line and sinker. N.B: use the information below to justify what your doctor friend told you. This is the position these young graduates fall under and again observe the name of the place that placed the advert and the salary scale and you must do this before going for NYSC. CONHESS 8 is Grade level 9 under civil service 1 Like

nelszx: IGNORANCE kills faster than Ebola. Medical Laboratory Sciences as a course has no relevance today and speaking from as a Doctor here are my reasons. We just have them their because we Doctors wants to help out and ease the burden of work on us and also make unemployment reduce. Left to us we can function fully without them. Asin they are highly irrelevant. 1. A doctor who has finished Medicine and Surgery can further into Residence program to study that Courses offered in MedLab which include HEMATOLOGY AND IMMUNOLOGY, CHEMICAL PATHOLOGY AND HISTOPATHOLOGY ( inside MORBID ANATOMY) as a Specialist and be awarded a Fellow( Consultant) in any of these course listed above which is being studied by a Medical Lab Scientists. This in such a way makes their course irrelevant since A Doctor who is undergoing the training can still function fully as Medical Lab scientist. So the Doctor is not a Quack but made his point not in full. We don't even need them as much. Even Medical Radiographer's as a graduate work is restricted to taking plain Radiographs(X-rays). But Ultrasound Scan, MRI,CT scan,Specials are being operated in the Teaching Hospital/FMC by a Resident Doctor's or a Consultant Doctor who is a specialist in Medical Radiography. So dear try and ask question before you tag one ignorance or speak wonderful grammar without knowing you made a mess of yourself. |

Ronaldinnioh: in 2017 and you still reason like someone in Pre-degree Sorry o you mean you are truly a doctor? Yet we kept asking why our health indices are so low 187/190. The problem isn't far fetched after all. I'd leave it at that thank God this thing we're saying isn't practiced only in Nigeria. The world is on your palm please use it judiciously. This in such a way makes their course irrelevantThat a nurse who goes ahead to be a midwife, paediatric nurse, perioperative nurse later in their career made Medicine and Surgery any irrelevant? And to you only doctors does residency and becomes consultants (fellow) in any of the above listed courses; ignorance truly spreads and kills faster than Ebola. DID YOU KNOW: So many (not 1 or 100) MLS are fellow of the Royal College of Pathology UK and so many are consultants under the belt of NHS. Even in the US and international so many are fellows American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Now you know since A Doctor who is undergoing the training can still function fully as Medical Lab scientist. My brother there's no where in this world this can happen let alone Nigeria. There's no where I repeat no where where a doctor in training can function as a MLS. Show me one and I'll show you 2 million places it's never true. So the Doctor is not a Quack but made his point not in full. We don't even need them as much. You and your "doctor" are still practicing traditional Medicine not Orthodox Medicine. You are no different from those "Staph" guys. Cos no well trained doctor will make these comments in our current contemporary world. Not my business So dear try and ask question before you tag one ignorance or speak wonderful grammar without knowing you made a mess of yourself.Doctor gbogbonise (Jack of all trade) this is a public forum where such things are read by millions so do well and bring up reasonable points when next you want to make such faux pas. 4 Likes |

Well they made first class,it's an achievement but seriously people should stop saying they should be rewarded with money. I think they should be rewarded with scholarships to study abroad. That should be enough to make a big impact. Not money. I wish all schools would imbibe this policy.Every hardworking student wants to get out of this country. |
