Can there be global peace if countries violate UN resolutions at will?

United Nations Security Council Resolution 478, adopted on 20 August 1980, is one of seven UNSC resolutions condemning Israel's attempted annexation of East Jerusalem. In particular, UNSC res 478 notes Israel's non-compliance with UNSC res 476[1] and condemned Israel's 1980 Jerusalem Law which declared Jerusalem to be Israel's "complete and united" capital, as a violation of international law. The resolution states that the Council will not recognize this law, and calls on member states to accept the decision of the council. This resolution also calls upon member states to withdraw their diplomatic missions from the city.

The resolution was passed with 14 votes to none against, with the United States abstaining.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 was adopted on 23 December 2016. It concerns the Israeli settlements in "Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem". The resolution passed in a 14–0 vote by members of the U.N. Security Council (UNSC). Four members with United Nations Security Council veto power, China, France, Russia, and the United Kingdom, voted for the resolution, but the United States abstained.[1]

The resolution states that Israel's settlement activity constitutes a "flagrant violation" of international law and has "no legal validity". It demands that Israel stop such activity and fulfill its obligations as an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention.[2][3]

It was the first UNSC resolution to pass regarding Israel and the Palestine territories since 2009,[4] and the first to address the issue of Israeli settlements with such specificity since Resolution 465 in 1980.[5][6] While the resolution did not include any sanction or coercive measure and was adopted under the non-binding Chapter VI of the United Nations Charter, Israeli newspaper Haaretz stated it "may have serious ramifications for Israel in general and specifically for the settlement enterprise" in the medium-to-long term.[6]

West Jerusalem should be the capital of Israel and East Jerusalem the capital of Palestine.

Best solution for peace.

Is it not very laughable that a biased USA is leading peace initiative in the middle east?

Do you know how many so-called UN resolutions the Arab and Islamic countries have violated? Of course, there be global peace as many countries have violated many idiotic UN resolution. It is funny you can only highlight UN resolution violated by Israel. I must say that your post does not make a good student.

You are very ignorant of your so=called country's history. Nnamdi Azikiwe proposed confederation for the regions but Awolowo and Bello, under the encouragement of British, kicked against it.

Isreal is a unique nation.

Its not a very compliant member of international community. It barely subscribes to the UN out of obligation to the US mainly, not out of duty. It doesn't belong to many UN bodies, is not signatory to some treaties like the NPT, picks n chooses which UN resolutions to obey, has nuclear bombs but doesn't want anyone to know.

Tell me any country that is getting away with this kind of alacrity without drawing international fire. None.

Palestinians should leave Jerusalem for now. It belongs to the Jews, for now. I know their pain. Its their father's land. But if someone came and enslaved me with force in my father's land because I refused to giv him the land. Honestly I'd giv him d land and free myself.

What's land, anyway? God is not now in Jerusalem anymore than He is in Ovoko. There r wasting tym dragging land with Israel. But then, it ain't just about Jerusalem.

I'm just saying solve the Jerusalem equation (by ceding it) and on to other issues on the process to free yourself from Israeli dominion! I mean look at Qatar, Bahrain, Dubai and Saudi, in the middle of the freaking desert! Ramalla could be another Doha or Dubai, if only they'd just quit d violence, and this....obsession with Jerusalem!

I wish they'd just read this piece. Someone pls get it to them.
