The little charity that the churches do from time to time is not more than the CSR that purely for-profit corporations like Shell also do.

Would you accept the idea that it's wrong to criticize Shell when they pollute the Niger Delta because they use some of their profits for CSR?

Most of the corrupt ex-politicians that we often criticize also spend some of their money on charity. Does this make them any less corrupt?

Even armed robbers also give to the needy. So what's the big deal?

Mr Seun, I knew your aversion to Christianity will force you to respond to this thread in the negative. The question is not whether the charity done by churches is corporate social responsibility or not. But rather, why those "little" charity as you put it are never worthy of mention by the same public/media that vilify the church at every little chance they get? Why do they make it seem like the church never gives back to the society? Why do people pour out their frustrations on the church and on pastors, when in fact, their elected officials are feeding fat on their future without caution? Oga Seun, you'd do well by answering these questions first before you carry on with your sermon against the church.

The devil is devising ways of reducing the influence of the church, but God pass them.

It is true that any reduction in tithe payment will reduce the power of Nigerian churches. This suggests that the power of Nigerian churches comes, not from the working of any Holy Spirit, but from their ability to extract loads of cash from their members every month. Money is necessary and sufficient to make a Nigerian church successful. Everything else is just branding.

The discussion is not just about what churches do with the tithes. The main koko of the argument is "are Christian supposed to pay tithes" where in the bible did Christians pay or where asked to pay tithes? Did the apostles teach or practise tithing in the early church? what is the rationale behind tithing in churches today?

Like the Bible says " money answereth all things" so it goes without say that money is an integral tool to spread the gospel. It's just a means to an end
