The Action Congress (AC) in Ekiti State has said that it had been vindicated on its allegation that the Segun Oni-led government in the state was feeding expired milk to pupils in government schools as officials of the state Ministry of Education visited the schools last week.

But the government, in a swift reaction said the AC was a bunch of confused politicians.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government, in a reaction by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre, said it had warned the people of the state that members of the AC were confused.

“As we said before, these characters in the AC are confused. They are just looking for something to say so as to justify their fake existence and the crumb that they get from their Lagos paymaster.

“Last week, what they said was that we were feeding students of public schools in Ekiti State with expired milk. Now, they want to justify their falsehood with the Saturday Tribune story. But unknown to them, they have further exposed their stupidity.”

The AC, in a statement by the Director of Communications of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Mr. Yemi Adaramodu, made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, at the weekend, said, “We have been vindicated about the alarm raised concerning the alleged distribution of expired milk to Ekiti pupils and students of secondary schools by officials of the Ministry of Education last week.

“An Ibadan-based national newspaper on its front page on Saturday published a story warning the public to beware of consuming expired milk of MILCOW brand which is currently in circulation, thus, confirming our earlier position on the matter. Interestingly, the same brand of powdered milk with the name MILCOW was referred to by the newspaper story and it was the same company, ROFICO, based in Lagos inscribed on the sachet of the milk distributed to schools in Ekiti that was mentioned as the packaging company.

“In his attempt to deny the obvious, the Commissioner for Education corroborated the fact that powdered milk was actually distributed to Ekiti schools by his ministry. He further confirmed that some of the powdered milk had actually expired but that those that had expired were kept in a warehouse.

“However, our worry is that we don’t know which warehouse the commissioner kept the expired powdered milk, neither are we aware when and where the said expired milk had been destroyed in accordance with the directive of NAFDAC to the packaging company.

“It is, therefore, safe to conclude that the commissioner’s claim that the expired products are in a warehouse is an afterthought and a face saving measure for his ministry and officials who engaged in the distribution of the expired products to pupils and students of Ekiti Schools.”
