Benue APC Chairman Says Herdsmen Killings Is An Invitation To War by temitemi1(m): 1:33pm On Jan 03, 2018
The Benue State chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, Comrade Abba Yaro says the killing of over 50 Benue indigenes by Fulani herdsmen is an attempt to spark a second civil war in Nigeria.

In a statement released in Abuja, Yaro said the latest killing is a clear case of ethnic cleansing around the Benue valley which ought to be stopped immediately.

He appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to call the Fulani herdsmen to order as well as direct security agents to immediately get the killers.

“This is above Party politics, it is human lives, how can you kill a pregnant woman and removed the unborn child yet slaughtered it? It is barbaric, unspeakable and generally unpalatable”.

Yaro says the Anti Open Grazing Law in Benue is not targeted at any section of the people but for the general security of Benue State, a measure against cattle rustling and a solution to herders/farmers clash.

“The implementation is ongoing and we are in support of our governor, we are not deterred, the Anti Open Grazing Law has come to stay.

“Nigerians should not see the killings as a Benue problem but National crisis, the absence of peace in Benue is an absence of peace in Nigeria.

“We must treat it as a national ethnic cleansing by the Fulanis and collectively pressurize Mr President to put an end to it. If Boko Haram can be defeated, IPOB stopped, Fulani killings can be stopped”, he observed.

He further call on the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Buratai, the Interior Minister Lt Gen Danbazau, the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris to protect Benue community or “we rise in self-defense, which will amount to the second civil war.”

Yaro emphasized that “if the Fulanis are not called to order by the relevant authorities to stop the ethnic cleansing like the lawless Fulanis are doing, Benue people shall take laws into their hands in self-defense”.

I remember when the issue of hijab came up, a lot of Muslim scholars, clerics, and even emirs commented on such trivial issue that adds nothing to national development. It generated a lot of heat in the polity, but it's rather unfortunate that this herdsmen issue which has claimed a lot of lives and properties, a lot of women has been raped and a lot of people displaced from their homes, yet all our Muslim clerics and emirs are silent on such issue.
It simply shows our priorities in this country. Hijab can generate controversy but loss of human lives by herdsmen will not. Truly Nigerians deserve the kind of leaders they get.

My heartfelt sympathy is with the people of Benue state and thank you mr chairman for speaking up irrespective of what effect it might have, if only the elites could shun political correctness and desist from politicising peoples lives and if only we the masses especially the youths could stop dissing themselves along religious and ethnic lines and resist temptation of being used as political media attack dogs, understand that together we can initiate a movement to force the government to at least do their primary function. It is never north vs south neither will it be Christians vs Muslims, bombs don't discriminate neither do guns.

The difference is always that the elites and their families/associates will never be where they can be bombed or butchered.

At the end you will realise that it is as it have been; elites vs the poor masses and they don't care enough if they care at all.

We will continue to curse ourselves and wail to deaf ears until we realise we have common enemy.
May the souls of the dead find peace in the supernatural world.
