It’s time Nigerians say no to division, acrimony caused by selfish people – Atiku

Former vice President Atiku Abubakar, has said that time has come for Nigerians to stand with one accord and say no to anything that will bring division in the country, noting that Nigerians problem are caused by those who fight for their selfish interest. The elder statesman in his tweeter handle disclosed this yesterday while commenting on the armed forces remembrance day and the need to always remember our fallen heroes. Unleashing the job descriptions and sacrifices made by our soldiers, Atiku reiterated the need for an urgent collaboration between Nigerians and Soldiers that will perhaps help in achieving peace, harmony and respect in country. Speaking further, Atiku Abubakar, made known his vision for a new Nigeria where peace, unity, progress religious and ethnic bigotry will completely be scraped out in the country. According to him, “My hope for our country is to see a time when neighbours of different tribes and tongues saw one another as brother and sister, when Christians and Muslims regarded each other as one under God who created all, when citizens could express opinions and grievances freely, then there would be no need for insurgency or uprising. We would all live together in peace and harmony. And, yes, our armed forces would have little to do! Read his full statement bellow: Once again, it is that time of year set aside for us Nigerians to honour members of our country’s Armed Forces who fought in the first and second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War and those who served or are still serving in different theatres of war, notably the Boko Haram insurgency in northeast Nigeria. While many of us took time off from work and other preoccupations to be with our families over the Christmas and New Year holidays, many Nigerian soldiers and members of other security agencies were in the front lines, ensuring that we were safe, protecting our lives and property, especially in the light of the security alerts over the threat of terrorist bombing during the celebrations. While we ate and drank, they were lying in the trenches, watching out for and poised to quench any sign of trouble. Some have been away from their families, not just during the holidays but for months on end. Some have yet to set eyes on their newborn children. In addition to these are those security personnel missing from the dining tables and warm embraces of families and loved ones, not because they were in the frontline but because they have fallen in battle. They made the ultimate sacrifice: giving their lives that the rest of us may live in peace and safety. They died that we might live. Unfortunately, the frequent headlines about Boko Haram and other violent attacks in the northeast and other parts of Nigeria can submerge the gallantry of our security personnel. As we all know, good news is hardly regarded as news. Little is heard or read about the exact numbers of soldiers who die in the defence of our country. Hardly anything is told of their acts of bravery and their moments of exceptional valour. I recently was informed that on Wednesday, January 10, our gallant Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed around Gamboru Ngala successfully averted what would have been a major devastating suicide attack to be carried out by three female Boko Haram terrorists against innocent citizens in Gamboru town in Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State in the early hours of Tuesday. I admire the bravery of members of our armed forces, and celebrate their hard efforts to keep us safe. My prayer on this day is to see a time soon when the guns and the armoured tanks lie idle because we have no more battles left to fight. My hope for our country is to see a time when neighbours of different tribes and tongues saw one another as brother and sister, when Christians and Muslims regarded each other as one under God who created all, when citizens could express opinions and grievances freely, then there would be no need for insurgency or uprising. We would all live together in peace and harmony. And, yes, our armed forces would have little to do! We must never take for granted the great sacrifice that these brave men and women have made or are making. We must never forget them or their loved ones. On this Armed Forces Remembrance Day, I call on Nigerians all over the world to show respect and love to our security personnel by showing respect and love to one another. When we all live in peace and unity and love, we not only enable steady development and progress in our great country, Nigeria, but we minimise the unnecessary pain, grief and loss of life among our beloved armed forces, who have bravely signed up to keep us all safe and secure. Our fallen heroes and their families are not the only ones who suffer. We all are victims of those who do not want our progress and development and perpetually pit one ethnic or religious group against the other. It is time for Nigerians to remember to say no to divisions and acrimony caused by people with only their selfish interests at heart.

And also to bad politicians

Signs to watchout for in a would-be-corrupt politicains as:

The game has began already, it has never change up till now. They will continue to use it because it prove to not fail but works for them.

Think about this: How come they suddenly realise that you exist and begin to mingle with you? How come a leader that does not put to prority the payment of workers salary now realise he need to feed you, give you cash? How come a senator who has never mention your senatorial district at the NA suddenly become the new local man?

# They will begin to eat corn on the road, carry fufu on their heads, fry akara, ride in maruwa, enter bukas and local food canteen, clean the gutters, drink from satchets of pure water, play the poor games.

# They will tell you they have now repent, that though they used to be bad but now they have experiences a rebirth.

# They will make 1001 promises without giving you any backup strategy on how they will enact it

# They don't have any known legimate business enterprise neither are they into civil service. They do not have any track record for success.

# They will begin to distribute branded bags of rice, garri and also part of their stolen cash.

# They cannot articulate any reaonable reason why they want to be in government, and when asked, they will give you a general answer with no focal point, no goal and no objective.

# You will see them participating in community works and activities they never get involved before. They will start becoming overcaring.

# You will see them moving from one commuity leader to another, paying big cash to Kings to buy their souls, attending popular churches, mosques and shrines to recieve blessings from their leaders

# They will begin to tell you stories of how poor they were why growing up

# They will suddenly become supportive to plight of citizen both online and offline. Things they are not known for if not because of closeness of election period.

# They have no political will, they will begin moving from one political party to the other.

# They will be running away from debates questioning.

# They will not be qualified with our 11 point requirements https://www.nairaland.com/4287028/not-vote-unless-these-11

Don't forget how they almost hit you with their hillus bus, how their millitary aids used to hit you with koboko, don't forget their insensitive speeches, don't forget their lack of pragmatism toward your plights as citizens.

The politician has the plan keep you poor so that when election comes around, they will be able to play on your poverty needs to make you vote for them. They also do this to make you unable to speak out when they oppress you.

Be wise! If they give you anything incentive, take it from them, don't argue with them but never ever, I repeat, never ever make commitment to vote for them. Let make them the fool this time around.

Be smart to keep your candidate to yourself and do the rightful and needful thing when you get to the poling booth.

Don't sell your soul, your future and of your posterity for money and shot pleasures you'll derive from it.

Now is the time to fight for your upcoming generation. Your vote is your bullet, you PVC is your weapon. It is a war, prepare for it.
