CHAPTER ONE

How do you feel?
How do you feel when your whole life just changes right in front of you?
Do you run? Wait and confront the changes with courage?
Well,as for me. I decided to run. I didn't have the courage to confront it. I was just a teenage girl watching my entire life crash before me.

Police sirens blasted behind our car as we raced down the road. The red painted car showed it was men of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) that were tailing us. I know you what you are thinking? How did a 16 year old girl get involved in all this? Let's go back to when it first began.

It was the wedding day of my elder sister. A Saturday, and a day before I left for university. I had just been offered admission into the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). I walked from room to room greeting extended families that had arrived for the occasion.

"Welcome Grandma" I greeted my mother's mother.

"Ehn!!! Toyin. You are now a big girl o!! See the small girl of yesterday" she exclaimed. I was a little embarrassed. One of my female cousins was in the room. We all have that one cousin we try to prove big girl to.

"Your mother told me you have been given admission" she continued.

"Yes ma!" I replied excitedly. Finally,something to be proud about in front of my cousin. She was still struggling to get admission.

"Kaare omo daada. And I don't have much on me o!!!" She said going through her purse. "Look! Sha take this small change" she said bringing out a bundle of a thousand naira notes. My eyes widened. "Use it to get anything you need for school"

"Thank you ma" I knelt down thanking her. Finally, with this money, I could get myself a phone. A device I had always wanted but my parents wouldn't get me. I thought about waiting till I got to school before getting the phone but I couldn't wait. I wanted it now!!! I counted the money. It was twenty thousand naira in all. That wasn't enough to get a phone in a store but it was enough to get a phone on olx,a site I had always hear my brother used. I needed a phone to check the site and search for a suitable phone for me. The only phone near was that of my female cousin, the one I had a silent "big girl" contest with.

"Shade,could you please borrow me your phone for a while. I want to check something online" I asked her.

"No problem. But if you see any number calling named " baby " or "my heart". Bring it,that's my boyfriend" she said stressing the boyfriend. You saw how she rubbed my face in the fact that she had a boyfriend, right?

"Showoff!!!" I said silently.

"what did you say?"

"I said thank you"

"No problem, you are welcome dear. Maybe I can give you my second phone. But,its not here with me"

Ouch! Ok,she won this round. She is the big girl. I took her phone to a separate room,where nobody was in,logged on to olx official website and navigated through the phones section until I found my preferred phone and it was exactly twenty thousand naira. Even better,the buyer was not far my house. I called him, and we came to an agreement. All I needed now was an excuse to get out of the house. I decided to go to my cousin again. Truth be told,she was a bigger girl than me and are parents gave her more freedom. So,going out with her wouldn't raised eyebrows.

"Thank you so much" I said handing back her phone when I got back to her location.

"No problem"

"Can I ask for another favour?"

"Sure go ahead"

"Please, can you escort me to the busy street by the junction. I want to do something over there"

"And what's that?"

"I want to get a phone. The seller is already waiting for me"

"Okay" she said disappointed I was about to get a phone. I thought she would say no then tell my family on me but to my surprise she said yes. Maybe she wanted to see the kind of rubbish phone I would buy or she was a good person deep down.

"Yes?!!!" I exclaimed unbelievably.

"Sure"

We set out. Two teenage girls going to meet an unknown stranger to get a phone. We carefully navigated through the compound,avoiding family members. Shade did it so well,I am sure that was not the first she had sneaked out without her parents consent. We got out finally and walked the dusty road that led to the busy street where the transaction would be taking place. We got there and I used Shade's phone to call him. He said he was wearing a black top on our side of the road. Shade spotted him first and called my attention. We signalled him and he moved over to our side with the phone. Shade, who was more experienced collected the phone and went through it,testing its functions. The phone worked great. I gave the seller the money and we went opposite ways. Shade and I in the direction that led to my house,the seller in another direction. Finally,I had a phone.

On the walk back, Shade continued going through the phone until she finally exclaimed.

"What?!!!"

"I think this phone is stolen!!!" She said with a worried look on her face. I thought she was lying at first until she showed me some SMS on the phone. It read "RETURN MY PHONE YOU THIEF OR I WILL FIND AND KILL YOU"

"But why didn't the seller or thief delete all this before selling it?" I asked getting worried.

"Because they were hidden. The owner of this phone uses an app called vault to hide the pictures and SMS"

"And you know this how?"

"I use it too"

"How did you get the password"

"The owner used the default password by vault. Probably too lazy to change it or didn't know how"

"So the thief didn't know all this thing were still on the phone?"

"Yeah! Probably just deleted the things he could see hurriedly"

"But the pictures hidden here are not bad" I said. "Just some picture of a little girl and some construction plans"

"Let me see that" she collected the phone from me. "Holy Christ!!!" She shouted.

"What?!!!"

"This is the picture of Anastasia,the daughter of the state governor that was killed days ago" she said scared, her voice was trembling.

"Maybe the owner of the phone got the pictures from Facebook or something. Maybe when the news broke out. The picture of the girl flooded the internet"

"I thought so too until I checked the pictures detail. This picture was taken on the 12th,the exact day she was kidnapped. She is even in her school uniform in this pictures"

"Haaaa!!!" I exclaimed with my hands on my head. "Are you saying the owner of this phone kidnapped and killed the Governors daughter?"

"It seems so or he knows something about it because it looks like he was either receiving this pictures for confirmation of the job or sending them out" she said. "And looking at the hidden SMS" she navigated to the SMS. "He was having a conversation with someone" she showed me some texts.

"That must be who he gave the job" I said. "Shade!!! What are we going to do now?!!! I can't go to jail o!!!"

"Calm down!!! Nobody is going to jail. The phone is yours now. Just delete the pictures and SMS and continue with your life"

"Delete evidences about the death of the governor's daughter?"

"Yes!!! Or else you want to go to the police station to report this where they might even arrest you as accomplice. You know the way Nigeria police are. You will be putting your life and family's in danger. Or you think anybody will protect you? The killers of the girl will come for you. So you had better shut up. Delete the pictures and SMS and move on with your life!!!" She said and stormed off as I quickly hid the phone in my pocket and followed her.

We didn't even bother sneaking in. Both of us were to tensed to do so. We just walked in and tried our best to hide our worries. Today was my sisters wedding and I will not be the one to ruin it. Tomorrow,I will be going to school. I can face my worries then.

"Where are you coming from?" My mother asked as we stepped in the living room. I was blank. I had never lied to my mum before so I didn't know what to say until Shade came to my rescue.

"I asked her to show me round the neighborhood ma" she said.

"Ok so why can't she now talk?" She referred to me. "You two should go and get ready. We leave for the church soon"

In my room,Shade looked at me as I brought out my clothes and proceeded to the bathroom to have my bath.

"Are you okay?" She finally asked.

"How can I be okay? When I just got mixed up in a murder case of the governor's daughter"

"Hey!! We got mixed up. You are not in this alone. And we are not mixed up in anything except you want to be. Don't tell anyone about what you saw and you are safe. We can continue with our normal life"

"But how can I live normally knowing fully well that…….."

"Toyin! Listen to me!! Listen to me!!!" She interrupted me. "It is not your problem. Don't ruin your sisters day with your sad face"

She was right. It was not my problem. I should continue with my life and make it count. The wedding ceremony and reception went by quickly. Tomorrow came and it was time for me to go to school. I had almost forgotten about the happenings of the previous day even though I had not deleted the pictures and SMS. My parents dropped me off in my hostel. After the usual farewells and hugs. They left, it was now I alone. The thoughts of the previous day came rushing back. I shoved the thoughts aside. It was not my problem. But,it soon became my problem.
My name is Toyin Lawrence and I am not a murderer.

CHAPTER TWO


Two weeks had passed since I resumed for school. I had Totally forgot about the happenings the day of my sisters wedding. I even deleted the pictures and sms off my phone. I lived my life.

It was a Monday morning. We were having the first class of the day,PHY101. The class remained 30 minutes before it would end. That was when he walked in. Who? I don't know how to describe him but find out yourself.

"Hey you!!!" The lecturer barked at him. "Why are you just coming to my class?"

The boy walked through the hall to the podium to meet the lecturer,looked straight into the lecturer eyes and said:

"I didn't want to come sir. But I had a change of mind"

OMG!!! The class filled up with laughter. Some hailed him for his courage while some over-serious students shook their head in self-righteousness. The lecturer was dumbfounded by his audacity.

"You must be stupid!" The lecturer said after finding his voice. "Here!!" He stretched his hands with a marker in it. "Solve this!!" He pointed to the board where a crazy calculus question was written. He hadn't even taught us yet. Everyone thought that was it for the boy but we thought wrong. He collected the marker, walked straight to the board and solved the question, every little bit of it. Jaw dropped!!!

"Ehm ehm ehm" the lecturer stammered. "No wonder you don't take class seriously" he continued defeated. "What's your name?"

"Strange human. But my friends call me Strange" the boy said. The class filled with another round of laughter.

"Is this some sort of joke. What kind of name is Strange Human" the lecturer challenged.

"My kind of name,sir"

"Let me have your ID card" the lecturer said. He brought out his students ID card and on it was boldly written "Strange Unknown Human"

"What kind of parents name their child this name?" The lecturer asked after confirming the name on his ID card.

"My kind of parents, sir"

"Just go and sit down" the lecturer said dazed. But he was not the only one dazed, in fact we all were but I was more dazed. There was something about this guy. Maybe,it was the strange name or the courage he had but whatever it was,it got me hooked.

The class soon ended and the class rep came up to tell us the practical we had after the class was cancelled. No more class for the day. My friends and I trooped out alongside other students. On the way back to our hostel,we couldn't help but talk about the boy in class today.

"Did you see the way that boy shut the lecturer up by solving that question" a friend said.

"I am in love already. I need that kind of energy in my life" another said.

"Girls!! Look. Its him" another shouted pointing to the boy from class earlier. He was by an electronics shop to get a earpiece which he plugged in his ears immediately.

Weeks passed,exams came near. The school had a policy of "no course registrations,no examinations" and before you could register for courses,you needed to have paid your school fees. This was the problem, it was recession period in the country and half of the students couldn't afford to pay their school fees. All hopes were lost until the day before exams was supposed to start. The portal to register for your courses suddenly became open for all. Either you had paid your school fees or not. It was a miracle. The school management immediately released a message on their site urging students would had not paid for the semester not to register. But,there was nothing the school could do. Someone hacked the school website and made it open for all. Money of students who had formerly paid was even reversed back into their accounts. We didn't know who was behind this or why but whoever he was and whatever reason he had,we were grateful. It was a fight against the corruption that was going on the school.

Although, exams were canceled for the main time. We were happy. But the question in everyones mind was "who is this unknown hacker?"

A week passed, after every effort by the school to rectify the issue but they couldn't. The management finally decided to let the exams go on and count their losses. I was in front of a friends hostel when I saw him again. Strange human,he was dressed in his usual black on black attire and a earpiece in his ears. I summoned courage and called him.

"Hey!"

"Hello. Do I know you?" He said. He had this calm rich mans voice.

"No but I heard you are very good in maths. Maybe you can tutor me"

"I am sorry,I can't" he said and walked away.

Ouch! But I didn't give up.

"Wait!" I called him back. "Can I at least have your number"

"Okay! I am only giving you this because I want you off my back" he said. "Give me your phone"

I handed him my phone and looked at it for a while.

"Nice phone. Where did you get it?" He asked.

I didn't want to tell him it was a used phone I bought on olx. I formed big girl and told him otherwise.

"A gift from my ex boyfriend"

"He must like you a lot. You know what? I think I like you. Why don't you follow me to my hostel. Maybe I can teach you a thing or two"

"Really?" I couldn't believe it.

"Sure!"

I followed him to his place. When he said hostel,he was being modest. He stayed in a flat on his own. He opened the door and gestured me to enter like a gentleman. After entering and settling down,he locked the doors and pressed a button followed by a beep sound.

"Why did you lock the door and what was that sound?"

"I want to ask you a question and I am only going to ask once" he said bringing out a gun. "Where did you get that phone?"

I screamed. I had never seen a gun that close before. He must be the owner of the phone and he must be murderer of the governor's daughter. He asked me again before I finally spoke.

"Ehmm….uhmmm… " I stammered. "A guy sold it to me"

"Which guy?"

"I met him on olx,I swear I didn't tell anyone about the pictures and SMS"

"So you saw it?"

"Yes! Please don't kill me!!!"

"Hey!! Listen to me" he moved closer. "I am not a bad guy. I won't kill you"

"But you killed the governor's daughter"

He took a big sigh then after thinking for a while. He asked me to get up and move. We went outside where he ordered me to get in a car and he started driving to an unknown location in a forest. After driving through the forest for a while,we arrived at a beautiful house. What was a house like that doing in the middle of an unknown forest.

"Get out!!!" He ordered.

Two men came out of the room to join him. They looked more huge and scarier than he was.

"Is she a problem?" One of them asked him.

"No! She is a good person"

They led me inside which was well furnished like someone of affluence lived there.

"Please don't kill me. I won't tell anyone you killed the governor's daughter" I kept saying all the way.

"We are not going to kill you!" Strange Human said.

"Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!" I said repeatedly drying my tears.

"And the governor's daughter is not dead"

"What? How? It was all over the news"

"It was faked" he said. "She is fine" he said and opened the door to a room where the governor's daughter was playing with her toys. I was startled. How is this possible.

"But….but…" I stammered.

"We are the good guys. The Governor hired us to fake his daughters death and keep her safe"

"But why?"

"The governor is in a big fight with the powers that be?"

"The powers that be?"

"The cabals that control the country. The governor discovered some illegal things going on in the country and as a safety measure. He is keeping his daughter safe. They had tried to kill her before but they failed and that is why he hired us to protect her and help him"

"Who are you guys?"

"I am strange human. An hacker. These are my friends. Alien and Snake. Ex Nigeria military and Navy"

"Wow! What's with the strange names"

"That's the name we go by now. We are unknown. We operate in the dark. You can't find us on the internet. No family, no real names. No means of identification. We are ghosts"

"Wait! Wait! You were the one who hacked the school?"

"Yes! And that's just the first step. There are more steps to be taken before we go to war"

"War?!!! War against who?"

"War against the government of Nigeria. Its time for a revolution!!!!"

CHAPTER THREE

Exams just finished. Everyone was preparing to go home. Throughout the period of the exams, I tried my best to avoid Strange Human. I did not want to be caught up in whatever he was involved. I didn't know much about his agenda but the little I could grab was not pleasant. War against the government? The same government that controlled everything in the county. There were a thousand and one ways to die and this was one of them. Immediately I finished my last paper for the semester, I rushed to my hostel to get my stuffs and leave for home immediately. I met Strange Human right there in my room.

"What are you doing here?"

"I see you are all packed to go home" he said looking at the bags on the floor.

"Yes"

"Are you avoiding me?"

I hesitated at first but then I said it.

"Yes. I am avoiding you. I don't want to get caught up in all of this"

"You don't get it do you? Its not your problem? This is the same mentality that has brought us here as a nation. You all forget it became your problem once you became the citizen of this country. It became our problem!! How long shall we stand and watch?!!! We need to fight! Fight for our future and our children's future. You have a home to run to now You might not have one to run to tomorrow. We are going to war. And you can chose to be on the peoples side or the governments side. But you can never be in between"

Okay! That touched my soul a little. But do you what me to do? I was just a teenage girl at the time. I didn't want to die or put my family in danger.

"I am sorry" I said after a while. "I can't. Please can you leave,I need to lock my room"

"And ehmmm" he said turning to face me. "Don't tell anybody about everything you have seen. Even your parents. Don't force me to do what I wouldn't like to do"

The ride home was a long one. I sat by the windows side. The cool breeze that blew gave me the relaxation and clarity I needed to think. More than ever,I needed someone to talk to but Strange Human as warned me against doing that. But still,the urge still persisted. I got home, my parents were not around, but I met Shade,my cousin at home. What was she doing here?

"Shade!!" I exclaimed.

"Toyin!! Welcome back"

"What are you doing here?"

"Well,your parents and mine said I should come over to spend some time. They think the change of environment will help me become serious with studies"

"Ok. I am even glad you are here"

I stopped. Hesitated, then stopped again. Should I tell her? Of course I should. We saw the pictures together na.

"What?" Shade pressed.

"I found the owner of the phone"

"What?! Are you serious?"

"He attends my school. Look,he is not a bad person at all. The governor's daughter is even alive"

"So where did Strange Human say the governor's daughter is?"

"She is in a….." I stopped realising something. "How did you know his name was Strange Human"

"What do you mean" she laughs. "You told me na"

"No! I didn't!!!"

"Toyin,calm down!!! You are tensed. Just tell me where the governor's daughter is"

"I won't!!!"

"Toyin please!!! Its for both our safety" she was beginning to get tensed. At that time,two men came out from one of the rooms.

"Thank you Shade,we will handle it from here" one of them said.

"Handle what?!!! Help!!!" I screamed. One of them covered my mouth with his hands and dragged me outside into a bus. Shade and the other guy followed right behind us. Shade joined me at the back of the bus while the other guy joined his accomplice at the front.

"Shade! Why are you doing this?!!"

"Its not my fault!!!" She whispered. "After the wedding,when I got back home,I told a male friend who was a SARS member about it. The next thing I know was he asked for your school and your home address"

"How did you know I will be coming home today?"

"They have been following you in school for a while. They know about Strange Human but they can't find any information about him or his family. But they know he works for the governor. Why do they want to kill the governor's daughter?"

"Probably to scare her father. The governor has some information"

"Look!! Just tell them what you know. Let's get this over with"

The bus stopped at a police station. Why would they bring me to a police station?

"Get down!!!" One of then men ordered me. They dragged me inside and took me to the counter.

"Wetin this small pikin do?" The officer at the counter asked.

"Na she kill the governor pikin"

"Haaaa" I exclaimed. This bastards are framing me.

"Will you shut up!!!" He barked at me.

"You mean this small pikin? Evidence dey?"

"Evidence plenty for ground. Na she and her boyfriend. We go soon catch that one. Dem kidnap the governor pikin to make money. After collecting money, co kill am join"

"But this one too small to go jail na"

"Na 18 she be. Put am there like that"

God! I was not even near 18. Why are they framing me for what I did not do. A strange officer came to take me to a cell. I wasn't even 18 yet but here I was having my first cell experience. I couldn't hold it in any longer. I fell to the ground and burst in tears. My parents came by later in the day with Shade. I could see the disappointment in my father's eye but my mother's eye was full of compassion for me.

"With all the bible teachings we taught you!" My father finally said with disgust breaking the exchange of tears between my mother and I.

"Daddy!!! I swear,I didn't do it!!!"

"You didn't do it directly but your boyfriend did it. You are an accomplice"

"I don't even have a boyfriend!!!"

"So what reason will the police have to lie against a teenage girl? Toyin, tell me!!! What reason?!!!"

"Daddy Toyin!! Please take it easy!!"

"Take what easy!!! Your daughter is a liar and a murderer. Okay! Where did she get the money to buy that expensive phone. Or the pictures of you on the phone are fake too?"

"No sir!!! It was grandma that gave me the money that I used to buy the phone"

"Wonderful!!! Use grandma as coverup. We can never know if you are telling the truth now,can we?"

"Daddy,please just ask grandma"

"Are you normal!!! You want to me go and ask a dead person if she gave you money?"

"Grandma is dead?!!!"

Apparently, grandma had been dead for a while now. I didn't know because I was in school and my parents didn't tell me because they thought it would disturb my studies.

"God!!! Shade say something na. You were there the day she gave me the money. We even bought the phone together" I said to Shade. My parents turned to her.

"Yes it's true that I was there" she said. Finally, a backup. "But,I didn't see grandma give her any money. It was her boyfriend that did"

My father shook his head while my mother shouted holding her head. The police officers soon came to ask them out because my mother's noise was getting too much. Something told me this was the last I would see of them here. The trust was gone. To them,I was now a murderer. But,in the midst of this,I still needed a way to warn Strange Human. Because they were already on to him. I get it now,I had a home to run to but now I don't have anywhere to run to. I needed to fight so nobody has to go through this ever again.It was now my problem.

CHAPTER FOUR

A wise man once said "heroes are made, not born". He was right. It is the little things we do as humans that make us heroes. How we fare in the face of adversaries. How we stand up to injustice. Those are the little things that make us heroes.

The day after I was arrested. A man dressed in suite came to visit me.

"Hello Toyin" he said.

"Hello sir!"

"I know you are scared"

"Yes sir! Please sir! I am Innocent"

"Hahaha" he laughed. "We can make all this go away Toyin" he said and my face brightened up. "The question is can you do what is reacquired of you?"

"Yes Sir! I will do anything"

"Good! Just tell me who Strange Human is,who he is working it and where the governor's daughter is being kept"

Oh God! He must be one of those people trying to kill the governor's daughter.

"Look young lady! This is not your fight. You can forget all this ever happened. You can walk away from this. I work for very powerful people. They can close this case and make it forgotten. All you need to do is tell me what I asked for"

This was the toughest decision of my life. It was my freedom and life against the life of the governor's daughter and the people protecting her. Like I said earlier,heroes are not born,they are made. It was time for me to become a hero. Giving out Strange Humans and his crew's location meant doom for the nation. Because, last time I checked, they were the only one willing to stand up to the government of the nation. And giving out the governor's daughter location would make the governor vulnerable and succumb to demands.

"No! No,I can't tell you. If it means dying in here? Then so be it"

"Hahaha. This is not your fight"

"It became my fight the moment I became a citizen of the country"

He left angrily. Did I do the right thing? I sure hope this doesn't backfire back on me. Night came and things got interesting. I heard a big bang followed by gunshots. After a while,Strange Human came to my cell door and broke me out.

"Come on!!! We don't have much time" he shouted.

"Isn't running going to make me look guilty?" I asked on the run.

"Well,if you stay,it is either they kill you or torture you death if you don't give them the information they want"

We ran outside where a bus was already waiting. Alien and Snake, his associates were waiting for us in the bus. We jumped in and the bus zoomed off immediately. We stayed in an unknown location for the rest of the night. At morning,we headed to my house. After my escape last night, my family were now in danger more than ever. On getting to my house,we saw four hefty men dressed in black coming out in a hurry. We hid behind a car until they jumped in their car and zoomed off. Something was not right. God! I hope it is not what I am thinking. I ran into my house followed closely by Strange Human. On getting in,my greatest fear was confirmed. They murdered my family. Every single one of them except my elder sister who was with her husband abroad.

"Mum!!! Dad!!!!" I shouted shaking their bodies. I rushed into my room where Shade was in a pool of her own blood. "Shade!!!"

"To…Toyin" she stammered faintly. "I am sorry. Please forgive me. This is all my fault"

"No! Don't say anything. Save your strength. We will get you to an hospital"

"It is too late" she said her final words as life left her.

"Shade! Shade!! Nooooo!!!" I screamed uncontrollably. I rushed back to the living room and cried more over my parents dead bodies. After crying for a while, Strange Human dragged me away.

"Toyin! We need to go!! Crying won't bring them back" he said dragging me outside. He dragged me back to the bus. Snake and Alien looked at Strange Human for confirmation of their worst fears. He nodded his head confirming it.

"Bleep!!!" Snake shouted hitting the windscreen of the bus. The windscreen cracked in two. They tried to comfort me as we drove back to their base in the Forest. After crying for so long,I finally fell asleep. I woke up at night and for a moment I forgot all my worries. That moment soon ended. The pain and sadness came rushing back with greater force than before. Strange Human came into my room.

"Hey" he said after standing and watching me for a while. I didn't reply. Not because I didn't want to but because I couldn't. I was weak and couldn't find my voice. He came to sit by my side and after much hesitation, he began.

"Kunle. That is my real name, Kunle" he said. I raised my face up. He had got my attention. "I wasn't always like this. I used to have a family too. I was a happy boy. No problems whatsoever. I had a dream of becoming a computer programmer" he continued. "Create an app that sells like facebook" he gave out a dry laugh. "But life isn't fair. I was also a victim of the corrupt ills of the country. My father discovered some illegal transactions in the ministry he worked for. He stood up against it and what did they do? They killed him. But they didn't only kill him,they also killed my mother and my little sister. The only reason I am alive today is because I was not home that day" he said. "Snake and Alien too. After serving the country for years. They were charged with treason because they stood up against the embezzling of money meant for arms. They barely escaped. They had family, Wives and kids they can't see anymore because seeing them would put their lives in danger. I was the one that erased all their data from the internet. " he said. His words hit a spot in my heart. I was not the only one with problems after all.

I felt safe in Strange Humans or should I say Kunle's arm. A Strange force pushed me to hug him. His warm body wrapped around me was everything I needed at that moment. I might have lost a family but I just gained another one. Now,I had nothing to lose. Nothing at all.

The next morning, I was better. Speaking with Kunle gave me this energy. I can't explain it but it was a good one.

"Good morning gentlemen" I said walking into the living room.

"Someone is in a good mood" Snake said smiling.

"Yeah. All thanks to Kunle" I said. Snake and Alien were startled.

"You told her your real name?" They both asked.

"It was time she knew" Kunle answered. "By the way. Their real names are John and Timi" he said pointing to Snake and Alien respectively. I laughed and moved over to the table where a newspaper was. It was today's daily and on it was boldly written "SHOCKING:: TEENAGE GIRL MURDERERS GOVERNOR'S DAUGHTER AND KILLED HER OWN FAMILY" .

"God! They are framing me for the death of my family too" I said.

"Hey! Its okay!! The truth will come out"

"I am not worried. What do we do now?" I asked with confidence.

"Watch the news" Kunle said and switched the TV on. The news was on.

"The governor of Osun State just abandoned the ruling party to flaunt his own political party. The governor who has always been against the government is dumping AAA for his own just established party YFC. This act as raised a lot of eyebrow from citizens worldwide. What could be going on?" The news broadcaster said.

"The governor is creating his own political party?" I asked.

"Yes. The war as begun already. Time for change" Kunle said. "To be one of us,you need to become a ghost like us. I need to delete all your details off the net" he said bringing out his laptop.

"Do it!!!"

This happy monday got me.... But again like you rightly said, heroes are made not born. Its time to become one. Happy hero monday to Toyin (HeyIamWeirdToo). Errm.... You know what i want to say next ba.... Let me just chill a little before i ask.

CHAPTER FIVE

Winning a war is not by the number of men or weapons you have at your disposal. It is about strategic planning. This is probably one of the greatest lesson Kunle taught me. And he taught me this over a game of chess. Give your enemy a bait,make them think they are winning while they play into your plan.

Warning! What you are about to read might be a little bit confusing.

"Freeze!!!" Security operatives shouted at Kunle and I. "Handcuff them" a superior ordered some men. They cuffed us and took outside into their bus.

"Thanks for the tip" the leading officer thanked the man who gave us away. "What is your name? So we can arrange your reward"

"Just call me snake. And I don't want monetary reward. I want something else"

"What if I may ask?"

"Can I speak with your superiors?"

"Of course"

Snake joined the policemen in their car and we zoomed off to the police station. We were taken to the cell while snake was taken to the DPO.

"Sir,this man said he wants to talk you. He is the one that gave the tip"

"Ok. Mr man,how may I help you?" The DPO said.

"I lost my job in the army years ago. I want it back and I want all charges against me dropped by the army"

"Mr man! Who do you think you are!!!" The DPO shouted. "So you are even a criminal? Arrest him!!!" The DPO ordered the officer. Snake grabbed the officer's hand, twisted it to the back and pushed him away. He brought out a gun and pointed it to the DPO who begged for his life.

"Please!!! I am sorry. Ok! I don't have the power to do this but I work for very important people who have the power to"

"Where can I find this important people?"

"They will be coming over soon to take away the criminals you gave away"

True to the DPOs word. The important people soon came to take away Kunle and I. They arrived in two white buses,all dressed in black. The DPO welcomed them and immediately he was in their safe hands. He gave snake away.

"That guy is a criminal too"

"What did he do?" One of them who appeared to be the boss asked.

"He said he wants his job in the army back and charges against him withdrawn. He tried to kill me"

The boss signalled to two of his men to bring Snake over. As they approached, Snake took them out commando style. The boss sent two more, Snake took them out again. The boss looked at snake and smiled.

"What did you do? Why were you kicked off the army?" He asked.

"My superiors did not want to meet my demands. So,I killed one of them" Snake said like a boss looking straight into the bosses eye.

"I like you! You have got skills and courage. You can have your wish. But only on one condition, you work for me and the people I work for"

"I hope you and your boss don't piss me off like my previous boss did"

The boss made a call,asked for Snakes real name and after a while on the phone,he said:

"Its done. You are now a free man. Meet me in this location tonight" he said handing him a paper.

The men in black took us away while Snake left the station to his house,his real house where his family were. There was no need hiding anymore. He knocked on the front door. It was his son that answered the door.

"Daddy!!!" He screamed and hugged him.

"My boy!!! You have grown so big!!!" He said carrying his son up. His wife came out to see who her son was greeting. She froze by the doorsteps.

"What are you doing here?!!" She shouted, hurriedly collecting the boy from him.

"Wunmi,please calm down!"

"Calm down? You are a criminal, a murderer"

"That is not true!!! I discovered some things going on the army. That was why they framed me. Please believe me"

"Believe you? Go!!Go!!! We don't need you in our lives anymore"

"Honey, what is going on?" A man asked from inside the house. "Yes Mr man,how may I help you?" He asked Snake on arriving at the doorsteps.

"You……" Snake couldn't find his words.

"Please, if you don't have anything to say. Leave my wife alone"

"I am sorry, I will go" he said. "Hey champ!" He said to his son. "I have to go do something important. I will be back soon"

Snake left the place. He tried keeping it together but he just couldn't. Army trainings didn't involve protection against heartbreaks. His wife remarried while he was gone. It should have been for better or worse. He brought out his phone and made a call.

"Alien, it is done. Kunle and Toyin will handle the rest from their end. I will join the army back soon and continue the rest from my end too. All you have to do is keep the governor's daughter safe"

"Copy that! Are you crying?" Alien asked over the phone.

"Wunmi remarried bro" Snake poured out his heart to his friend and partner.

"Damn!! Bro!! I am so sorry. Don't cry on me man. We military men shouldn't cry"

"I know but it is hard"

"I know. Be strong. We have been through worse together"

"Ok man. Thanks. I will call you back" he said and hung up the phone.

Meanwhile, the men in black took Kunle and I to a secure location. We were locked in a room. The boss came in later to interrogate us.

"Tell me why I shouldn't kill you now?"

"Because the people you work have not given the order yet. They need us alive for information. And we are ready to give them any information they need about the governors daughter and what the governor is up to" Kunle said. The boss nodded. Exactly what he wanted to hear.

Now in case you are still confused. Snake didn't betray us. It was all a plan to infiltrate our enemies. The people we fought spread across the country. They have excessive power in their disposal. Snake got his job back in the army working for them. Now,he could determine the corrupt officers in the force working for the cabals, fish them out,and champion a coup. Kunle and I on the other hand were here to identify our enemies one at a time. What they wanted and why they held the country in ransom. Alien had the easiest job,taking care of the governor's daughter. Although, the easy job soon became a disaster. The cabals thought they were winning but in the real sense of it,their all operation was about to be hacked.
