Highway 101 reopened Sunday after a nearly
two-week closure triggered by Montecito's deadly mudslide had choked off most vehicle travel between Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. The highway which had been shut down since January 9 has now been reopened after 12 days of closure.

Below is the picture of before and after clean up.

If it's in the north, I predict that it will be completed in 20 years.

If it happened in the west, the next president from the western part of the country will rally round and make all efforts to commence and complete the road during his administration.

However, If this unfortunate incidence had happened in a crucial and very important highway in the eastern part of Nigeria, we will forever see the money that was budgeted for the job on national dailies, but the actual work will never happen. Not even mobilization fee will be paid to the contractors. Take the examples of the Enugu-Port Harcourt, the Calabar-Port Harcourt, the Owerri-Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene roads or the Onitsha Head bridge, just to mention a few.
