I want to narrate what I saw when I went to jamb zonal office, Ilorin, twice to do some things. It all happened this month. Students are coming to register for the upcoming UTME examinations in which you have to come very early, students who come as early as 7 am get done after about two hours (that is if there is no network problem) and those who come around 9am complete the registration not earlier than 1 pm but when I was there I found out that some students will not spend up to 20 minutes there as they will jump queue,on investigating further I discovered that those students know someone that is working there which will let them to bypass the queue.
To me these are people (the workers there) that will say President Buhari is appointing only his kinsmen into vital position whereas if they are in the same position it is glaring that they will do more than that. This is common in some parastatals in Nigeria and are we not our government? We need to change our orientation if we want Nigeria to be better.
lalasticlala,let people see this

We don't need to change our orientation, we just need to restructure the country so that our impact can be more felt around us, not some man in Abuja controlling everything

Nigeria can only become better if power is given to the regions...so they can develop at their own pace.

After restructuring is it not the same set of people with the same mentality that will continue ruling us?

There will be more accountability

Have you ever wondered why our leaders behave themselves and respect queues when they are abroad?

Cos the system is much smaller and better manage for justice delivery and punishment if things go wrong.

The major cause of the impunity of our leaders is the difficulty for the common man to hold our leaders accountable because their power is from Abuja and very far from the average citizen

The way we are going, Nigeria can never be a good or great or better country, that's the truth not even God, Allah or gods can help us.

However, the only way for we to grow a little is if we give power to regions.

There's competition between Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba and this competition and jealousy is what will encourage each other to strive and become the best if power is shared regionally.

Take Benue for instance, the governor cannot guarantee security because the police answers only to someone in Abuja.

You might say that they collect allocation but the they still lack powers to use those allocation for fundamental development of the state and that's always their excuse to transfer the buck to Abuja, IT MUST STOP!

My governor can't do power plant in spite of his commitment in resources and willing foreign partners.

It took the grace of God for federal roads to be repaired by the state.

To hold a governor to justice, you must know someone in Abuja, how many people can do that? So the governor gets too powerful

Don't even talk local chairmen, those one cannot execute any meaningful policy cos of limitation of powers.

Can you effect any meaningful change in policy today without going to Abuja?
How many people can do that?

In US, there are some fundamental policies that can be effected by the states and people hold the state government to account.
The system is smaller, efficient and better managed than trying to make every single policy acceptable to the entire ethnic group before it is passed.

Take the cattle colonies for instance, it is the best approach to suit the real herdsmen BUT only workable in the north where you have large stretch of land. Instead of forcing on the south, it should be the state responsibility to decide for colony.

Another bill that has drawn Nigeria backward because it could not satisfy the diverse ethnic interest is the original PIB bill.

If that bill had been passed years ago or the respective states had powers to do certain things in the bill, there would have been multiple modular refineries, a more accountable oil company, surplus power generation etc. But just because a section of the country was against a single item of compensation to host communities, billions in investment and technology were lost

Right
So they don't have hunters in benue
Vigilante nko
Ask maiduguri ppl
When go no go, they formed civilian JTF
he can also bribe police commissioner with security votes or form bakassi boys
Or mercenaries
Encourage ppl to arm and defend themselves
So many options for a serious governor

You might say that they collect allocation but the they still lack powers to use those allocation for fundamental development of the state and that's always their excuse to transfer the buck to Abuja, IT MUST STOP!
But they have power to loot
What nonsense is this you're saying
Allocation that was budgeted for roads and tractors? !!?
They only lack political will and intelligence

My governor can't do power plant in spite of his commitment in resources and willing foreign partners.
Yet redeemed, Canaan land, dangote and now afe babalola all have power plants
He is not willing enough

It took the grace of God for federal roads to be repaired by the state.
Why doesn't he fix state roads then he can campaign against Federal govt during elections and see if they don't wake up
More laziness

Every single voter can but they rather use election day to sleep or play football in the empty streets

Don't even talk local chairmen, those one cannot execute any meaningful policy cos of limitation of powers.
yet one chairman that used to wear slack neck T-shirt bought house in lekki after just 4 months as caretaker chairman
Another 2 were arrested by Efcc for looting 700 and 500 million respectively Kogi
Abeg Mowu hia word
They don't WANT nay, NEED to do any of these things cos they are safe and secure with their stolen billions
