Efewestern:Olu is a generic term for a person in a position of highest authority in a large settlement, similar to Oloja for a leader of a small settlement. Oba is a title for an Olu The first use of the tile was at Ife, where most of the 13 Ife leaders used the title, ie. Oba Iwinrin, Oba Ijio, Oba Ilejugbe etc Oduduwa himself never went by 'Oba' because it was a title for those chiefs who he claimed to head. it was later princes from Ife who went around founding kingdoms that popularized the tilte 'Oba'. https://www.nairaland.com/3702769/let-us-try-give-etymology 2 Likes |

Isekirihad more experience in maritime war. They had subdued the Ijaws of Kabo, Kumbo, Mehin and Tarakiri in a war of the Niger Delta, between 1730-1770). It was a series of wars which the Isekiri were progressively winning in order to control the trade of the Niger River. The area stretches from Bomadi in Delta state to very near Yenagoa(an Epie Edoid speaking town in Bayelsa). It was in these series of wars that Isekiri became masters of the western and central Niger Delta, having boundaries with Nembe in Bayelsa state, at the River Pennington (Talbo Whoever wrote this must be sick in the head. |

Efewestern: This is a more believable version The Itsekiri were originally from Ijebu and Ilaje and both were already residents and part owners of Areas in Lagos Centuries before Benin rose to prominence Secondly the Ijebu Ilaje and Itsekiri are known to be good at Water Warfare Benin are not known as a Riverine People so how can they fight Aworis on water? Thirdly as Olu Domingo explained in his letter to the King Of Portugal when he was requesting for Christian Missionaries to be sent to Warri, the Itsekiri Kingdom was often confused with the Benin Kingdom And sometimes assumed to be part of it which is not correct Fourthly among the Yorubas the Oba of Lagos actually Occupies the Postion Of a Baale because he is not the King Of a Yoruba Clan or Subtribe for example the leader of the Awori Yoruba is the Olofin Of Isheri because his throne descended from the founder of the Awori Clan Olofin Ogunfunminire Even the Olubadan was considered a Baale because the Ibadan People’s are considered to be mainly ethnic Oyos under the Alaafin Of Oyo A Baale is a district head The Wealth Of a Domain or it’s leader doesn’t influence the Positions in the hierarchy of the Obas |
