A Projected Atiku's MasterStroke In Statistical Analyses!

That Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, GCON,  is currently making waves online and everywhere is no longer news and that the Waziri Adamawa is warming up for Nigeria's highest seat of power come 2019 is also not alien to Nigerians. Alhaji Atiku has been on the journey for the exalted position of 'President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria' since 1993 under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He lost the ticket to Chief M.K.O Abiola after placing third behind second placed Babagana Kingibe. Over the years, he had since evolved into a political heavyweight.

The Atiku's Connection!

I had thought that Alhaji Atiku stands no chance in future elections after losing out to Yar'Adua in the 2007 Presidential Elections when he came a distant third under the platform of Action Congress (AC) polling 2,637,848 (7.45%) as against PDP's candidate, Yar'Adua's    24,638,063 (69.60%) and Buhari's (ANPP) 6,605,299 (18.66%). Determination in one's dreams and ambitions is a driving force that keeps surging within and keeps the dreams alive, this is what led Atiku to take a plunge again at the next elections in 2011 but he lost at the PDP's Primaries to Goodluck Ebele Jonathan hence he couldn't contest at the elections proper and the same thing repeated itself again at the APC Primaries where Atiku also lost out to Muhammadu Buhari hence missing out at the 2015 Presidential Elections. Alhaji Atiku must have learnt a lesson or two that he actually came out on those occasions he lost at the 'wrong time', this necessitated his calculated attempt now as 2019 beckons that there is no "better time" to offer his service to the Nation as the future President or better still an Aspirant for the exalted position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria than now!

Judging from sincere minds, it is generally believed that APC's government under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari and Pastor Osinbajo had failed Nigerians especially in the areas of poverty reduction, power supply, insurgency, positive Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), working economic policies, national unity, fights against corruption, sustainable agriculture, unstable exchange rates, effective industrialisation road map and respect for rule of law. Alhaji Atiku as an outstanding politician, has succeeded in making himself a marketable brand as a result of his True Federalism and Restructuring Campaign stance which is expected to foster trust and encourage oneness among the tribes of Nigeria especially at such a time the Buhari-led administration had sown the seeds of discord among Nigerians through his kids glove approach towards the mindless killings that occurred in Benue, Plateau and Taraba States by the hands of the nomadic but highly sophisticated Fulani Herdsmen Militias which Atiku had condemned the federal Government on . This Marketable Brand in Atiku reverberates across the Country especially among the youths. The youths are the life wire of any economy because they populate the working class and Alhaji Atku had demonstrated a strong nexus between his business empires (that cuts across oil and gas, agriculture, food production, imports and exports, manufacturing and education) and youths employment. I make bold to say that the Waziri Adamawa is one of the few individuals with the largest employees on his payroll in Nigeria and he keeps affecting lives, changing destinies positively through his business empires.

The truth is when you have a man of Atiku's calibre at the helm of affairs of Nigeria then such a Country needs not fear the future and feel inferior within the comity of Nations but a brighter future awaits us. He is the type that fields his "Best Eleven" little wonder his many businesses are flourishing and still standing till date. A passionate reader and consummate boardroom man. I am optimistic that in Atiku, Nigeria is about to get it right if eventually Alhaji Atiku makes it to the seat of power come 2019!

How Bright Is Atiku's Chance?

Nigeria is a dynamic Country of over 170 million populations with a large percentage of politically conscious citizens. It is very certain that 2019 will come as one of the most interesting election year in the history of the Country because of many dynamism that stems from social media, public debates among youths, sensitisation of the minds through write-ups, constant reactions on bad policies of government and insistence on making election counts. Already over 90 political parties have registered through INEC, a sign of distrust on the current ruling party, APC. It is noted that some group of minds have decided that never will they vote back into power either APC or PDP but a totally new party. Some group don't care about the party but the face of the aspirant. Another group prefers the old faces (recycled politicians we are used to) to run for elections. These are the groups that are currently prepared to determine the fate of whoever emerge as President come 2019!

Nigeria as we know it plays money politics so it will not be news that on the long run the race may have to be settled between APC and PDP this is where the confusion of many Nigerians emanate from. There is no point deceiving ourselves, I am yet to see any party among the registered party that has the financial muscle, political clout, membership drive and political strategy to wrest power from APC except for the People Democratic Party. Alhaji Atiku is favoured by the last two group of minds (those who care more about the face of the aspirant and those that wants the old faces). Going by this. If Atiku survives the PDP's primaries then it will be a straight battle between whoever APC is fielding, probably Buhari. Definitely, the approval ratings of Buhari is no longer at ease and all what is left is more of window dressing of the state of the economy which is a far cry from the realities on ground. Atiku's chances in the coming elections can be weigh in on the rate at which people are beginning to see his good intentions judging from his National Representation in the area of business and employments. On the social media, his approval ratings keep improving almost on weekly basis and this is not going down well with the ruling APC.

Sometimes this year, a call for restructuring was championed by a group of freedom fighters under Nnamdi Kanu, leader, Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) and this call was supported by some eminent Nigerians which include; Professor Wole Soyinka, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku and many others.  In 2015, the change mantra was chanted and it spread across the North and Southwest of Nigeria leaving out the Southeast and Southsouth indifferent to it. As 2019 approaches, restructuring will definitely be one of the spices that will pep up the tempo of the 2019 elections though not catchy in the core Northwestern States it is however embraced in the Northcentral and partly in northeast which is the needed impetus for Alhaji Atiku to leverage on and use as a launchpad to catch erstwhile lost PDP states within those regions that were hitherto lost to APC in 2015 to his own advantage!

The Analytical Statistics And Atiku's Projected Masterstroke!

I will premise my analysis here on what transpired across the nation in  2015 elections and what may likely unfold in 2019!  Niger State for instance had voted PDP from 1999 till 2011. But by 2015, Babangida Aliyu, the then governor, reportedly campaigned for senate with Buhari's image on his posters. In 2015, we saw how most of the former PDP States up North (Niger, Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Taraba and Adamawa) going the way of APC as a result of stern resistance from the Northern elements within PDP to stop at all cost a "minority Ijaw Man" the person of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan from re-contesting the 2015 elections. It was reported that a PDP's unwritten rule had stipulated that Presidential candidacy must alternate between a Northern Muslim and Southern Christian which they (the Northern elements) felt Jonathan had breached by trying to go for second term whereby they felt the zoning formula favoured a Northern candidate which led to mass defection of PDP House of Assembly members (which include Senators and House of Representative members) and strong bigwigs to the opposition party, APC, hence, tilting victory towards APC at the Presidential polls this is nothing but the gospel truth on what transpired. Little wonder the margin between Victorious Buhari and vanquished Jonathan was close (2,571,759) unlike what obtains in previous Presidential polls!

Atiku's projected master stroke is premised on what can be done to win back the above mentioned PDP's 9 States to his fold and sharing a big percentage (not necessarily winning) of votes in Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kaduna and Jigawa. Going by the 2015 elections as it cuts across the 9 selected PDP States above, it is good we consider Atiku's likely performance in the 2019 projections going by the fact that the ethnic card played against Jonathan being a minority Ijaw man as against the expected Northern candidate his party, PDP, wanted. This time around, it is going to be a North vs North scenario and here we are;

(1) Niger State (2015)
Buhari (657,678);
 Jonathan (149,222)

Projections: this has been a PDP state right from 1999 till 2011 and it was the ethnic card that worked against Jonathan which gave Buhari (a candidate of an opposition party, APC) a first time lead here in Niger with the battle now between two Northern candidates, your guess is as good as mine. PDP all the way!

(2) Bauchi State (2015)
Buhari (931,598)
Jonathan (86,085)

Projections: Bauchi State is a PDP zone that will likely return to the firm grip of PDP in 2019 going by the dissatisfaction of the ruling APC at the centre and weakening of it's party structure within the State.

(3) Gombe State (2015)
Buhari (361,245)
Jonathan (96,873)

Projections: it is common knowledge that the Northern elements that left PDP for APC gave Buhari his victory here but with a sitting and action PDP Governor seated here, PDP will definitely carry it by 2019!

(4) Plateau State (2015)
Buhari (429,140)
Jonathan (549,615)

Projections: Plateau had always and will always favour PDP and this will be massively repeated and not with a close margin by 2019.

(5) Benue State (2015)
Buhari (373,961)
Jonathan (303,737)

Projections: Barnabas Gemade defection from PDP to APC gave APC the victory but with the turnout of PDP's Convention and sudden rejuvenation of the party's structure in the State, and talking about the carnage unleashed on communities within the State by Fulani Herdsmen and with a sitting President who happens to be a Fulani man not taking a strong posture against it definitely Benue will retrace its step back to PDP.

(6) Kogi State (2015)
Buhari (264,851)
Jonathan (149,987)

Projections: with a badly damaged sitting Governor's image in an APC controlled State, owing salaries and creating chaotic environment, I see the party structure collapsing and creating the needed chance for PDP to deliver the State to winning ways in 2019!

(7) Kwara State (2015)
Buhari (302,146)
Jonathan (132,602)

Projections: Bukola Saraki, current Senate President and the Lion of Kwara politics is presently being victimised and maligned by his party, APC, (he single-handedly delivered Kwara to APC) and being a PDP decampee I don't see Kwara delivering the goods for APC like they did in 2015 again. Saraki will likely work against APC in the State in 2019

(8 ) Taraba State (2015)
Buhari (261,326)
Jonathan (310,800)

Projections: Taraba is PDP and PDP is Taraba, there is no basis for comparison by 2019, Gen T.Y Danjuma (rtd) is in firm grip of the party structure there and it's a no no for APC. Owing to the recent killings of defenceless villagers by Fulani Herdsmen Militias that appears the FG is sympathetic to, I don't see APC making any reasonable votes here.

(9) Adamawa State (2015)
Buhari (374,701)
Jonathan (251,664)

Projections: this is no doubt a PDP state but for the 2015 ethnic card within PDP, it fell to APC but with the recent Alhaji's Atiku cross carpeting back to PDP, I am too sure that APC is gone for good in the State as PDP is fully back now!

Going by the above projections, it is important to note that Atiku's victory ahead of 2019 lies in him sweeping those 9 States which is definitely a close call for the rejuvenated PDP. The party cannot afford to field a political featherweight against Buhari or whoever APC is going to bring up as its Presidential Flagbearer.

On Atiku's Corruption Tag

Shortly before 2007 Alhaji Atiku had not been tagged a corrupt man but how did he became corrupt overnight? Olusegun Obasanjo, his boss gave him that tag to mess up his political ambitions which  many unwary Nigerians had fell for. Obasanjo's allegation of "Atiku is corrupt" have not been substantiated since 2007 when they left office to now.  It is instructive to note that, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has a very big problem of human relationship management. He had issues with the five Senate Presidents, some governors, party leaders, associates that served under him. It must be noted that Obasanjo's overbearing attitude and not yielding to superior advises led him to lose the cordial relationship that once existed between him and his erstwhile VP, Alhaji Atiku, whom Obasanjo vowed to deal with and ruin politically for stopping his "Third Term .Agenda" this bold attempt from Atiku to Obasanjo is unAfrican first and unNigerian, hence, "The Atiku Is Corrupt Tag" was launched to tarnish his image politically. Atiku's constitutional role which is assigned to the office of the Vice President is the Chairman, National Economic Council (NEC). According to his portfolio, he is to preside over a meeting made up of the 36 governors of the Federation, CBN Governor, Minister of Finance etc. The National Economic Council plays an advisory role just like National Council of States forum as its decisions or resolutions are not binding on the President who is the chief executive of the country. As important as his roles are, he (Atiku) is not under any power whatsoever to have the final say on decisions taken but everything still ends up at the President's (Obasanjo) table for final decision.

Lest we forget, Atiku stood against injustice when he confronted his boss, Obasanjo, on the illegal third term ambition of the Egba Chief yet no one is giving him credit for stopping what would have been a rape of the highest legal framework in the land - Our Constitution!  Atiku chaired the Council on Privatization under the acronym, BPE, Bureau of Public Enterprises on the express mandate of President Obasanjo with Nasir el-Rufai, who is the present governor of Kaduna State as Director General based on Alhaji Atiku's recommendation and he was never convicted of any crime in the course of serving. As the Vice President who takes orders from his boss, the President, how could he have outsmarted a bossy and overbearing Obasanjo to become dangerously corrupt as assumed by Obasanjo? Alhaji Atiku has never been named among the ten richest people in Nigeria as far back as i know which is common knowledge. That many former governors and even serving ones are far richer than Atiku is no news, and that many of these governors have been convicted of embezzling and plundering their States into hardship is what we know. Yet since 2007 despite not being convicted if any crimes in any capacity he had served his Fatherland, his former boss, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo had chosen to tag him "corrupt" just to tarnish his political ambitions of governing the Nation as a President in the future. He has been without immunity since 2007 when they left office, why has he not been prosecuted before any competent court of law? I think Nigerians should start asking questions from Atiku's accusers perhaps they know what only angels know about Atiku that we, humans, don't know.

Right from 2007 till now Atiku had taken a shot at the Presidency thrice (2007, 2011 and 2015) and there was never a time during thise occasions that corruption charges were brought against his person. The question now is, why now? Another angle to this debate has to do with the successive governments we have paraded since 2007 till date (Yar'adua, Jonathan and Buhari) and up to now, none has deemed it fit to prosecute "corrupt Atiku", because Atiku was never convicted by any competent court of law to be corrupt. The truth is, Obasanjo did all he could to nail Alhaji Atiku at the courts but he (Atiku) was on those occasions declared clean from those charges. At this juncture, I make bold to say that Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, Waziri Adamawa seems the most qualified to fly the PDP flag in 2019 presidential election going by his political experience and business acumen, which will portray efficiency and making a Nigeria that works economically a reality.

The Truth Behind Buhari's Cult Following & Atiku's Bright Chance

I have come to realise that the hype behind Buhari's overbearing influence in the North is nothing but a myth that had been busted time and again through the polls until he got sympathy votes in 2015 at the Presidential Polls. Let it be noted that the bulk of votes Buhari had in 2003 (12,710,022) under a known and popular party (ANPP) then against a Southerner, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (24,456,140) were garnered more from his base in Northwest but when he was contesting against a fellow Northerner, Musa Yar'adua in 2007  still under the national party,  ANPP,  Buhari votes plummeted to a disappointing 6,605,299 compared to Yar'adua's 24,638,063 the question now is, what led to the sharp drop in Buhari's votes? One thing, two Northerners were involved, Yar'adua and third placed Atiku, meaning Northern voters are not blind loyalists as widely assumed. In 2011, Buhari contested against a Southerner, Goodluck Jonathan, for the third time under a regional party called Congress for Progressive Change (CPC),  and he polled 12,214,853 compared to Jonathan's 22,495,187, the surge in Buhari's votes can be attributed to the political tempo in the Country then which favours a Northern candidate over a Southern one (as a result of the sudden death of Yar'adua) but for Jonathan's emergence as the Presidential party of a national and popular party, PDP, he won but the sympathy votes Buhari got from his base in Northwest and partly northeast buoyed by defectors from minor parties swelled his votes.

In 2015, it was clear that Jonathan was no longer needed for going against his party's unwritten agreement that a Northern candidate should be picked as the Presidential flagbearer which he flouted coupled with the spate of corruption cases his associates were labelled with which he choose not to confront as a leader and not being proactive enough on the issue of insurgency (especially Boko Haram) up North, all these paved way for an influx of biased and emotional propaganda against his persons and government which finally put a nail to his ambition thereby giving Muhammadu Buhari of the APC a chance to emerge as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with votes totalling 15,424,921 compared to Jonathan's 12,853,162 leaving between them a margin of 2,571,759 to make it the closest in the history of the nation perhaps because it was the first time an incumbent (Jonathan) under a ruling party lost to an opponent from an opposition party. It is crystal clear here that Buhari's 15 million plus votes (a little over his usual 12 million plus votes) were as a result of bloc votes from few North Central and North Eastern States like Kwara, Niger, Gombe, Bauchi, Borno and Yobe.

Going by the above calculations, it is instructive that we factor in what lies ahead for a Buhari Presidency versus an Atiku chance at the polls. Buhari's chance seems to be faltering almost on daily basis especially when one consider the likes of prominent Nigerians who once supported him and are instrumental to his victory at the polls in 2015 now giving him disapproval ratings and even advising him to shelf the idea of going for a second term based on his failures in many policies on the economy and brazen attempts at taking Nigeria back to the age of nepotism. The permutation now is if Buhari at his best can manage just 15,424,921 votes what will now be his chance now that his approval ratings keep dropping especially when one consider the fact that 2019 will be a straight battle between two likely Northern candidates which brings to mind a replay of the Yar'adua versus Buhari contest in 2007 where a popular Buhari lost the elections with a little over 6 million votes compared to now that he has been tested and confirmed a failure by many Nigerians especially his contemporaries and former associates like Obasanjo, Junaid Mohammed, Senator Shehu Sannj, Atiku, Dele Momodu, Wole Soyinka, Cardinal 'Bunmi Okogie, Oby Ezekwesili,  Rev. fr. Mbaka and many more. Atiku's chance is very high especially when the Northern factor is considered and going by the tension in the land as 2019 approaches. The search for a northern element that will bridge the widening gap between the North and South is needed urgently, this is why Alhaji Atiku remains the only candidate up North that can confront a recalcitrant Buhari or whoever APC is pushing forward as its Presidential candidate ahead of 2019!

I must confess I have been reading a lot about Atiku lately and I am not too impressed but reading this elaborate piece is something else somehow the OP raised some vital points that must not be wished away like that about the chance Atiku has against a Buhari! Orange (Buhari) shouldn't have been compared to an Apple (Atiku) but here the OP did a thorough analysis between these two Candidates and indeed Atiku is it!

As recent as two years ago he abandoned PDP because he knew he could not win the primary and crossed to APC in hope of securing the ticket. When APC held primary Atiku came third.

A political heavyweight would have remained in PDP and fight it out.

Then he again abandoned APC to go fight in PDP. Why cant his rating as heavyweight work in his favor in APC ?

OP are you aware your candidate doesnt even have control of the party structure in his State?

To be a heavyweight he needs to be the godfather of politics in his State. Governorship candidates in Adamawa dont respect Atiku, they ignore him and go to Abuja for endorsements.

Are you standing with Buhari on religious and ethnic ground or on the ground of his present performance? Let's work for a greater Nigeria, ethnicity and religious fanaticism is not the way out. Though no sane Nigerian with functional memory is even thinking about Atiku.

I appreciate your analysis but you seemed to be totally out of the loop in this case. Atiku is being monitored by forces working on the orders of Obj and his gang who feels he doesn't deserve to be a President because of payback time to them. Trust me Atiku knew too much about the cabals and those holding us to ransom in this Country. He is a political heavyweight in his home state and still calls the shot but results are always used against him, his influence despite joining APC in 2014 after dumping PDP still tilts the presidential results in Adamawa towards APC. Virtually all the Governors of Adamawa till date still court him. Atiku is a silent mover you have to be in the midst of those who know him for you to be in the know! You need to read this article with an open mind.

You are the OP and the OP is you. grin grin

Funny how you always show up to cosign all the OP's Atiku laundry topics. grin grin

I strongly believe you are ok right? Is it a crime now for someone to feel like contributing to my posts once in a while and how you even come about with your wild guess is ridiculous I wonder what you do for a living, I guess "stalking"? Little wonder you are forming one mumu "I have given out N100,000 cash to Nairalanders" grin cheesy grin when you know yourself grin please stop that mad attitude of assuming someone is this or that it is a sign of joblessness. At least pretend you have a job, stop exposing yourself because I know you!
