I witnessed an argument today, someone was saying it is still possible to feed well with just "1000 naira" for a whole day in present day Nigeria, i was wondering if this is true so instead of drinking beer this weekend we might just feed 20 nairalanders that really need it?

A plate of food can go as low as #250(even lower in some places), so if the person eats thrice at #250, that's #750 with #250 change

Yes it can, I had to work on my car at a mechanic village, I was hungry and was led to a shanty restaurant, a plate of food sells for N300 with 2 skinny meat, I asked for extra meats, with a bottle of coke, but I couldn't finish the whole meal, I spent N500.

Lots of times what we pay for at these porche restaurants are overhead costs.

Madam, how did you arrive at 50 for onion and Maggi together. Thickener and pepper 50. You sure you cook?
The last time I bought onion, the least amount was 50 naira and it was 2 tiny(very small) looking onions. The least you can get for pepper too is 50 naira.

Op, 1k is enough for a day. A plate of food(mama put) is 300 naira. If you eat 3 times, that's 900. The remaining 100 should be enough for sachet water.

Seems I need to change my mamput woman oo, she sells meat for 100 naira a piece and as an Ibadan man I do a minimum of four per meal so breakfast 400naira meat, 150 rice, beans 50, plaintain 100, salad 100, and maltina 100---900 for breakfast alone oo

Oga last I checked, onion is been sold for #20, 4 cubes of maggi is #20 too.
A lil garri can serve as thickner or u buy a thickner of #30 nd u dnt need to put all.
Least for fresh pepper is #50, nd d dry one #20.

Reduce your food portions generally.
Reduce your meat to one piece, take 100 naira rice, either beans or plantain 50naira (not the 2 together), and stop taking maltina. Continue with your salad, and alternate beans with dodo 50 naira on different days. Carry your own water in a bottle everywhere you go.
That's trying to eat healthier.
Nothing to do with how much is in your pocket o.

A cup of beans (derica) #300

Sure! With a pot of stew/soup of 1000( or less, you can feed for 3 days). The only problem though is having to eat the same soup/stew for days.

All the calculations so far seem to assume, unconsciously albeit, that kerosine is free, or perhaps still, that kerosine is a self provident constant as far as cooking in Nigeria is concerned.
