A former member of the National Assembly Senator Joseph Waku says Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose is in control of police in his state.Waku, who said Fayose locks anyone he hates in police cell, insisted that Nigeria is not matured for state police.“On state police, Nigeria has a problem”, he told Vanguard.

“Let me give you a typical example. Ekiti State, is a police state. Whoever the governor hates, he just locks up.

“But in an ideal situation, state police is the best because they will be more familiar with the terrain. But with political maturity, we will get there.

“Nigeria is getting to that maturity stage, sometimes circumstances force you to be mature. I think we are getting there,” Waku said.

On Federal Government’s plans to establish cattle colony, Waku stated that it is a stupid thought.

“That is the most stupid and idiotic thought; very irresponsible thought. What is wrong with ranching? America has one of the biggest land mass in the world, yet you do not see cows on the street.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Osinbajo has admitted that state policing system was the only way to go in the wake of the security challenges in the country.

There's no running away from state police. We need it for effective control of crime in a plural system such as we have in Nigeria. Police force largely recruited from a particular state can fight crime with greater results because of shared value systems. Initially there might be issues but in the long run the system will evolve and Nigeria will be better off. There won't be need any more for governors to depend on Abuja for approval before they can fight a local crime.

Thank God FAYOSE tenure ends in few months he will be lock up also. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander.

Believe me most people castigating Joseph Waku will be the ones shouting disband state police in time to come. We know how Governors act in terms of who gets what in the state. Same way they never shouted restructuring when PDP was in power but suddenly restructuring. The reason for this state police is just to use it for dirty jobs like election rigging. Like if APC wins 2019 elections in my state Rivers state PDP, Wike and his supporters will start saying no we don't need state police, a case study is SARS in Rivers state which Wike used 2013-2015 and won election but when PDP lost Presidency the new song is disband SARS. The people from the East killed true federalism or regionalism as the case maybe under the Military head of state Aguiyi Ironsi an Igbo man same people are saying let's go back to true federalism. PDP and APC same father with a different mother.
