[b]10,000 Candidates write INEC recruitment test in Abia[/b]

NO fewer than 10,000 candidates in Abia State wrote the recruitment test conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday.Head of INEC Public Affairs Department, Mr Edwin Enabor, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia.

Enabor said 15,000 candidates applied for various positions advertised by the organisation, adding that applicants, who were not shortlisted for the test, were not qualified for the positions they applied for.

On complaints by some candidates that Abia adopted a written interview format instead of the oral format which other was used by other states, Enabor said there was no rule that mandated them to adopt a particular interview format.

"Each state is allowed to adopt an interview format that will be peculiar to their needs and interviewing more than 10,000 candidates in two days will be a Herculean task for us in Abia," he said.

Enabor said apart from the more than 10,000 applicants who were shortlisted for the test, there were others, numbering more than 1,000, that "gate crashed" the interview.

"The applicants, whose applications were received late were informed to come for their test in May, but they insisted that they must write it today," Enabor said.

He said those applicants made the conduct of the exercise a complex one for the state INEC.
