bujebudanu1: On the surface, it sounds like a wack decision. But if you look closely, you'll see it's sound and will be effective. Mass shooters tend to choose soft targets. What's a softer than a school full of kids, and designated as a "gun-free zone"? Why don't they go shoot up police stations? The mere thought that you could meet resistance will discourage all but the most determined of school shooters. Gun control also disarms lawful citizens AND makes it possible for only criminal to own guns. If most homes in Nigeria had guns, do you think these 2-bit miscreants that invade homes will be as rampant? Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the US, yet they are the murder capital of the US. This year alone, 321 people have been shot, with 62 dead and 259 wounded. Mind you we are just in the second month of the year! Also, you need to look at the significance of guns in US history and culture. They earned their independence with guns. Their framers, having just fought off a tyrannical government, knew all too well the importance of an armed citizenry. Power corrupts absolutely - as the saying goes, and the founding fathers of the US were very distrustful of big government's potential to encroach on people's freedoms. The role of guns, in the US, becomes very clear when you look at the first two items in the Bill or Rights: First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Second Amendment: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Here are a few quotes from some of their founding fathers: 1.) "The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear ar as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." --- Thomas Jefferson 2.) "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence." --- George Washington 3 Likes 2 Shares |

BuddhaPalm: Wow.so many reasons to back your claims.but the increase in guns handling is d main problem here. I think the force men should b employed to teach not civilians that can't handle tempers and ammunitions The last shooting that happened in las Vegas at a bar.j think last year Re u suggesting d bartenders also should b equip with guns ? |

Esseite:The corruption and unaccountability of the Nigerian government is fueled and abated mostly by ethno religious bigotry. Therefore, it is rare seeing people stand up for what is right in this country. An all out nationwide protest such as this cannot be held because of this. Also, most Nigerians are cowards who show only keypad and social media bravery but can't come out for public protests because they don't wanna die; thereby giving corrupt politicians a field day. 2 Likes |

US government can really b funny.d essence of legalising gun is for u to use it as self defense when attack.in numerous"lone attack" no American citizen v been able use so legalise gun to defend him or herself.a lone man will enter a club or whatever n start shooting everybody n nobody will shoot back.den what is d essence of guns being legalise.d only time Americans use their legalise guns is to kill themselves at home |

bujebudanu1: My brother, it's just that there are higher things at stake. Terrorists have attacked with trucks, knives and even fertilizer bombs. And the solution isn't to ban these because they have other utilitarian values. Texting and driving kills 11 teenagers DAILY in the us. Should we also ban cars and phones? Why are the kids not protesting this? The thing is everything is "pros/cons", and for guns, the pros outweigh the cons. In the 20th century, alone, governments killed an estimated 262 MILLION people under their control. Six times the number of people who died in all the wars of the 20th century combined... They even have a fancy name for it: Democide. One notable thing many of these governments did first was to disarm their citizens. What trump suggested actually worked in Israel to reduce terror attacks: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/21714 It will also work in the US. 2 Likes |

GrammarCheck: To bear arms is a constitutional right in the US (second amendment). A 2/3 majority is required to alter the constitution so Obama could not have done it alone and he would never get NRA sponsored politicians to do so. What he did was to make it more difficult for mentally unstable individuals to acquire guns, which Trump, the Idiot-in-Chief, reversed. |

Gggg102: Yes it will. That doesn't stop the criminals from getting their hands on it giving the fact that a good number of them belong to one gang or the other and gangs are 100% certain to always have guns. |

GloryIsaac: Then let's legalize cocaine, heroine and other mind altering drugs too because some people buy it illegally. Who purchases stuff from the black market, the good or bad people? Black and white thinking, no space for nuances in your brain, aight? Ever wondered why folks are scared of robbing people anyhow? especially in their homes. So by your logic, robbery is more rampant in Australia, GB, Germany, France and Belgium since in these countries people do not have the right to bear arms. Nonsense! Who robs people? the good or bad. Grow up! Poor people. 3 Likes 1 Share |

BuddhaPalm: Fertilizer bombs are legal? Trucks and knives are not meant to be used to kill, guns are. Texting and driving kills 11 teenagers DAILY in the us. Should we also ban cars and phones? Texting and driving is illegal. Guns are not. Every idiot can get one EASILY. Why are the kids not protesting this? So a person who protests against open borders, must also protest against the killing of whales? The logic ... The thing is everything is "pros/cons", and for guns, the pros outweigh the cons. In your opinion. In the 20th century, alone, governments killed an estimated 262 MILLION people under their control. Six times the number of people who died in all the wars of the 20th century combined... If you believe that civilians can defeat the US military with their guns, you must also believe in unicorns. They even have a fancy name for it: Democide. Why don't you mention that there is no other developed nation on this earth where school shootings are as rampant as in the US and correlate it to the fact that in no other developed nation on this earth people are as obsessed with guns as Americans. Rubbish! |

To all those who advocate arming teachers and to those who believe that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, I ask this simple question: Have you been trained in tactical shooting, e.g., swat team or high risk search warrant execution? Please don't compare competence in a shooting range setting; it's like comparing apples to railroad tracks. Tactical shooting is a whole different matter. It takes significant training, excellent eyesight, very good physical condition, and drilling, drilling, and more drilling in a live-action context. Shooting range practice is not shooting at an armed moving target, with bystanders nearby, perhaps in the dark, perhaps in tight quarters, adjusting to the echo of other rounds fired, estimating a change in projectile trajectory on the fly as you and the target moves, all of it under stress, and at potentially high speeds. Unless you are highly trained, you are courting disaster. Good luck to all the untrained and untested. God speed to the bystanders. from the NYTimes comment section 1 Like 1 Share |
