WAKE-UP CALL TO YOUTHS AHEAD OF 2019 ELECTIONS SEASON
It has become a norm in Nigeria for politicians to exploit the ignorance and desperation of youths towards achieving their selfish ambition. Some politician’s obsession with power drives them to unimaginable extremes to gain unfair advantage against over their political opponents.
Some of the ungodly means these politicians device in their desperate bid for power include arming young adultsthe youths with hard drugs and weapons and encouraging them to become hooligans and brandish terror on the polity. The misguided youths use their energy to intimidate voters, political opponents, election officials, snatch ballot boxes and execute various diversionary tactics of their paymasters all through the course of the electioneering season.
Unfortunately, the typical unethical Nigerian politician is not after the overall well-being of the youths but only interested in using them to ride unto power. After the elections curtains are drawn closed, the politicians abandondump their overzealous supporters and withdraw their handoutshand-outs, leaving them dispirited and feeling worthless. Most of the youths the politicians utilize are usually poorly educated and lack the requisite skillsets required to flourish in any contemporary society. Although, recent developments have shown how the politicians employ the services of educated youths youngsters to promote their rethoricsrhetoric and push their agendas on social media.
The inability over time of the youthss to engage the politicians on pertinent issues and scrutinize their plans for them remains their greatest undoing. Divisive politicians have also mastered the art of echoing parochial sentiments to cover conceal their flaws and incompetence. Most Politicians often times only pay lip service to many important topics that affect the youths directly such as job creation, education, vocational training, skills acquisition and other youths development programs. These and many more burning issues are brought to the front burner during the campaign periods only to be relegated to the background afterwards.
As the elections season draws nearer, it has become pertinent to call on Nigerian youths to know the calibre of people they will support and promote for various offices before joining any political bandwagon. The pedegreepedigree and track record of those vying for different positions must be considered dispassionately and in the interest of the country and our localities. Progressive politics without bitterrnessbitterness and rancorrancour is possible if we all agree to work together as patriots. We must collectively demand for good governance at all levels from a position ofint strength by demanding thatpressuring our political leaders to do the right things always in the best interest of the majority.
The youths must be wary of supporting recycled failed politicians who have consistently performed below expectations. The group of politicians who add little value to the society but enrich themselves in office must be discarded. We cannot afford to continuouslye allowing men and women of questionable character and qualities lead us astray asnd we blindly follow. These are people who don't even have faith in the systems they are supposed to manage. Their children don't attend the schools they run, their families don't visit the hospitals they build for the masses and they call themselves leaders. This has got to stop, stop; the era of politicians taking us for granted is over.
The Yyouth must rise up and reclaim their pride of place by developing refining themselves and desisting from all forms of negative activities and tendencies. Youths must eschew the demons of violence, idleness, prostitution, drug use and crime. We must Sstop being willing tools in the hands of selfish politicians by allowing them to pitch usyou against your brothers and sisters. The world is patiently waiting on usyou to solve the many myriad of challenges confronting humanity and weyou canno't afford to fail. I'm calling on the youths to become responsible members of society by engaging in productive activities. We should Cconsider furthering your education, learning a new trade, securinge a job, volunteering your time to help someone, starting up a business,... doing something worthwhile with your liveslife that weyou can be proud of. YES, weyou are unique and weyou matter., We will notdon't let anyonebody make usyou feel otherwise.
A word is enough for the wise!!!
