Starcomms New Mobile Number 0702*******

I have the Starcomms New Mobile Number and funny enough I visited there website. Information has not been updated to have anything abot the phone.

The number is an 11 digit more GSM lines with a SIM Card. Whenever I call, people take it for an international line and some don't bother to pick it, unless I send a text.

0702****300

The phone used CDMA C106

I was told that the service roams, Nigeria is confirmed but I don't know if it roams round the globe. If it does then it will be good.

I in to travel to Benin and Lome soon. I will check if it trully roams.

Ciao Ciao

Drogba,

Its not actually a GSM line, its works just as the existing Starcomms CDMA lines work.

I don't know if the tariff is the same but i would expect it to be and I understand that they will be changing from sometime next week and when I mean change, the prices are not expected to change more like a shake up and consolidation of their existing tariffs to make them all unified.

Also I have heard rumours of a revolutionary new tariff being developed - don't ask me what it is though, cause i have no clue!

Ciao

It is called Unified Licence. Starcomms is only a landline operator before, but with the advent of Unified Licence, it is permitted to start GSM too. Starcomms is one of the recently telecom operators who are granted unified licence. It means that once you apply for such licence and it is granted, you are allow to operate any other area of telecommunications.
As it is now, Starcomm, Intercellular, Prest cable and Multilinks who are all landline or fixed wireless operator before, had all been granted unified licence thereby allowing them to also carry gsm services in their networks by roaming.
It also means that either MTN, Celtel can also apply for unified licence to operate fixed wireless or international gateway. MTN has indeed set that in motion with the recent acquisition of VGC communciations.

Good development.
Re: Starcomms' New 0702/07028 Lines by nazzyon(m): 1:33pm On Mar 10, 2007
The SIM didn't work in another phone.

I inserted the SIM into 6680, SE Z600, 6610i but it didn't work. It says "Insert SIM"

And when I inserted another SIM into Hisense the reply was "Offline".

About "Roaming" I intend to travel out and with Nigeria to see if it will work. But in the meantime anyone can try the same.

I really do nt think d SIM will walk in another phone aside the one given cos i think Starcomms n co have their own phones.
Re: Starcomms' New 0702/07028 Lines by cream2(m): 10:36am On Mar 12, 2007
The 'SIM' that comes with it is not actually a SIM but a R-UIM (Re-Useable Identification Module) it was developed for CDMA handsets that is equivalent to the GSM SIM and 3G USIM except that it is capable of working in both CDMA and GSM phones and networks.

Take a look at this link for more info;

Oh if that be the case it should work.
Re: Starcomms' New 0702/07028 Lines by manntee(m): 8:33am On Mar 15, 2007
it might not work cos most telecoms companies deal with phone manufacturers especially CDMA, and they locjk the phones to a particular sim thus you use another sim with the phone it does not work, i guess the converse is true so that they can sell their customised phones as well.

That was what i was thinking too.

If we can't use the sim on another phone, then d stuff is kinda f**d. How much is it?
Re: Starcomms' New 0702/07028 Lines by 9ja4eva: 7:45am On Mar 17, 2007

The roam will only work in the area of starcom coverage anywhere in Nigeria. It doesn't extend to outside of the country.I think its a great development, since you'll now be able to use your starcom line in places like Ibadan, PH, Abuja etc. I am using my starcom line in Ibadan and its working perfectly.
Re: Starcomms' New 0702/07028 Lines by nazzyon(m): 8:09am On Mar 17, 2007
To be able to use it outside Nigeria. Then it means that one has to pay for it just like I paid for Celtel line.
Re: Starcomms' New 0702/07028 Lines by 9ja4eva: 5:04am On Mar 18, 2007
Yeah its expensive to roam worldwide in all Countries.

Please, is the new 0702 line a land line? I know its mobile and can roam but I'm wondering, if I go to say a roadside telephone operator and want to call this 0702 number, will I get charged for making a normal land line to land line call(within the same state) or will I get charged for making a gsm call?
Re: Starcomms' New 0702/07028 Lines by nazzyon(m): 6:52pm On Apr 06, 2007
It is a land line. And the rate did not change for starcomms it remains the same as before. Roadside operators already has the knowledge unless they want to cheat that is when you will be charged higher.

Is that clear?
