As the two-week deadline for the lifting of embargo on governorship aspirations promised by the State Chairman of the All Progressives in Osun State, Prince Gboyega Famodun draws nearer, members of the party across the state have started getting apprehensive.
The medium, during a recent visit to the state, went round to gauge the mood of party members since the recent declaration by the party chairman to lift the ban and afford the aspirants the opportunity to move round the state in pursuance of their gubernatorial aspirations.
Many of the party members have equally used the opportunity of the medium's interview to express their concern for the party should the party leadership eats its word as expressed by the state chairman.
According to Mr Moruf Adeosun of Balogun Ward of Gbongan, headquarters of Ayedaade Local Government Council Area of the state, should the party go back on its word to lift the embargo as promised by Prince Famodun on Friday, it may mark the beginning of dwindling chances of the party in the final governorship election in September this year.
"Should the party leadership decide to eat its words by refusing to lift the embargo as promised by the party chairman in the state, our it may mark the beginning of of our party's losing chances at the September governorship election.
"My prayer is that the party leadership will do the needful and lift the embargo as promised and allow all the governorship aspirants to start their consultation in earnest," he said.
In his own opinion, another party chieftain from Ila-Orangun, Mr Afolabi Ajayi expressed his optimism that the party chairman will not diminish his personal integrity by eating his words by allowing the leadership under him to continue with the embargo on governorship aspirations.
"Prince Gboyega Famodun, in my own calculation, will not allow this issue to reduce his personal integrity among party members across the state.
"I trust the party leadership to do the needful by lifting the embargo and correct the impression that it's not being teleguided by some unseen forces resident outside the state," he stressed.
In the words of another party chieftain from Ilesa, Alhaji Abdurasheed Abe; "I don't know what and who is holding the hands of the party leadership from lifting the embargo.
" In my personal opinion, the party leadership at the center should urgently mandate the state chapter to lift the embargo and allow all those interested in the governorship seat to start their consultation in earnest."
In Osogbo, the state capital, feelings of party members are not different from those expressed by others outside the state capital.
Some of the medium's respondents expressed their resolve to force their candidates to follow the footsteps of some of the aspirants who had for long started their political consultations without waiting for the party directive by throwing in their hats into the ring.
"The party leadership in the state cannot hold us to ransom any longer on our candidates' aspirations.
"We are all indeed tired of the party leadership's continued embargo.
"Of what essence is the embargo that allows a particular aspirant to go ahead with his own consultation and even airing of his jingles on radio, while holding down the hands of other aspirants. This is quite against the spirit of equity and fairplay.
The medium further gathered that there currently exist uneasy silence within the party across the state as members await the lifting of the embargo as promised by the state chairman on a radio programme barely two weeks ago.
