The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken on former Lagos State governor, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over his comments accusing the party of being behind reports linking him with financial impropriety.

Speaking through its National Vice Chairman (South West), Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo, the PDP said it was surprising that each time Tinubu had problems with the media on his stewardship in Lagos, he always pointed the finger at the PDP.

The party, which stated that it had always handled its own matters without blaming others for them, urged Tinubu and others in his shoes to be bold enough to face the consequences of their actions or ‘jet out’ if courage has failed them now that they no longer enjoyed any immunity.
The party said it was not holding brief for the Nigerian Tribune and the Nigerian Compass which Tinubu also attacked in his newspapers on Tuesday but added that it was sure the two newspapers could adequately take care of themselves.

“We are amused that Bola Tinubu, who had on several occasions dared the EFCC and the ICPC to come for him, could become so jittery and hyperactive after his friend and contractor, Olowolafe became a guest of the EFCC.

“What we expect the former Lagos State governor to do is to deny ever knowing Olowolafe as a contractor that worked for his government. And we strongly ask him to address that issue instead of looking for imaginary scapegoats for the nemesis that is catching up with him.
“We ask him to also deny that the so-called ‘True Face of Lagos’ who petitioned the EFCC in the first instance are not his people. Did Tinubu not read his party Chairman in Lagos, Ajomale who described the EFCC inquest into Lagos matters as a welcome development? We urge him to admit that he is his own enemy and should stop pointing fingers at our party whenever his ego and greed land him in trouble,” the PDP said.

The party also accused Tinubu of desecrating the name of Chief Obafemi Awolowo when he said that the late sage would not sleep if he knew what his people were doing with his legacy – declaring that Tinubu and his ilk were the ones destroying Awo’s legacies through their hypocrisy.
“Awo would never have associated with characters without any identifiable background. He would gladly have supported the media in its dogged fight against charlatans masquerading as democrats. He would have disowned anti-people elements who daily use his name to work against the interest and aspiration of the people.

“If Awo were awake today, it is because wolves led by Tinubu are on the prowl in Yorubaland desecrating the hallowed temples of democracy and decency. Respected true Awoists like Chiefs Ayo Adebanjo and Reuben Fasoranti, who have had first hand experiences in the hands of these elements, would laugh at Tinubu’s outburst and invocation of Awo’s name, especially when it is generally known that the man holds Awo’s family in great disdain and contempt.

“At least it is on record that Tinubu had ignored Mama HID Awolowo on several occasions she had invited him and his cabal to join others in looking at Yoruba problems and proffer solutions,” the PDP declared.

The statement added that if Tinubu thought he could intimidate the PDP with his outbursts, he was mistaken as the party would always challenge him to account for his ‘area boy’ stewardship in Lagos.

“We are familiar with the tactics of Tinubu and his co-travellers in seeing the hands of PDP in their tangle with nemesis. We expect him to soon blame the PDP for using EFCC to hound him. We also expect the EFCC to do its job dispassionately whenever Tinubu and his newspapers come to that aspect of their predictable game plan,” the PDP concluded.
