5 Reasons Candidates May Not Score High In 2018 UTME by PenPrince07: 6:42am On Mar 09, 2018 |
The 2018 UTME is currently going on in centres across the nation as students seek to gain admission into their choice institutions of learning. Why some have high hopes of getting better scores to scale through the admission process, the truth is that such targets only end up as hopes - not reality. There are myriads of reasons you might not get those high scores in the 2018 UTME such as: You Didn't Plan Your reading Know your strength and work on your week areas. Have a time table for the subject and set aside time to study them daily. Starting early enough gives you the time cover up grounds. In addition, it ensures you don't go into the exam panicking. Reading early helps you not only to cover enough grounds, it gives you time to revise and fix grey areas. Don't wait until you're a month away from the exam before opening your book. Inability To make past questions your partner One of my secondary school teacher had a saying that exam questions are not made from heaven. They are mostly what have been asked before, sometimes with a slight modification. You can get the past questions for each subject and study them alongside your text. So, get all the past questions, time yourself and answer them like you're in an exam. It gives you a snippet of your abilities ahead the 2018 UTME. However, don't deceive yourself by opening the back for answers while you are on it. That would not help you. No study partner This would ensure you have someone that can push you back when you're veering off the track. However, let your reading partner be someone with similar visions like you. You can't afford to partner someone who would drag you down. Lack of target Yes, it is especially important It is especially important that you have an idea of the kind of score you want. Is it 200? 250? Just ensure you have a range of score in mind. It'd help you stay on track, give you the drive to continue studying for the utme. They Depend on Cheating With the advent of social media, it is easy to see posts urging you to pay to get questions and answers leaked to you. Aside been wrong, you risk being swindled by fraudsters roaming the internet. Don't fall for their scam, na hustle them dey! http://theflowingink.com/5-reasons-candidates-may-score-high-in-2018-utme/ 1 Like |

Some of the reasons are correct however there is an exception in/to every rule some students are just too brilliant for failure to handle provided they prepare even if it is a month or few weeks to exam that all that is need. There is a big differences between thousandnaire brain(below 200),millionaire brain(scoring range 200-269) and billionaire. brain(scoring above 270). |

My neighbor's bros was busy watching BBN when he's writing his JAMB on Monday. I asked him why he's not reading, he told me that he just came out to stretch his eyes small. Lol. There's problem. 4 Likes |

Thank you for your post. We believe this is educational to an extent however certain believes need to be corrected. You Didn't Plan Your reading This is the best point you made. But planning to read is not learning. Learning is a continuous state. That is if students had being taught the real concept and essence of learning which is continuous knowledge acquisition and practice. They won't need to plan their reading. Inability To make past questions your partner This is the worst advice you can give students. I understand you might have tried that and it worked for you. Due to the educational system of Nigeria. This is a cram to pass method which end up still not effective. In Nigeria, students never understand the essence of education or learning due to the regurgitating factor being forced on them by their professors. This why, after graduation from most Nigerian universities, students hardly remember anything apart from course titles and the stress of regurgitation. We need to teach students to learn and not regurgitate to pass. No study partner Truly, study partners are great. Sincerely do they really help. Well the only partners students need in Nigeria is access to quality educational technology and materials which can enable them to learn more and explore their horizons. It is a pity this is really missing in our system. Do you all think Sweden, Finland, Japan , England etc all arrived at their innovative technological advances without access to educational technology and materials. We are in the 21st century and innovative approach through technology is the way forward. This can lead to all forms of learning such as self learning, personalized learning, adaptive learning, micro learning, flipped classroom, etc. Lack of target This is also a wrong mind set. Education or exam is not a marketing or business where target is extremely important. They Depend on Cheating That is due to the exam body who sell information out to make money. Cheating is bad. But I don't believe cheating will make you pass or impact knowledge into anyone. Haven't you heard or taken exams where you are allowed to bring all devices, books and past questions (like you said above), and still students end up failing. This is because, exam are to test your knowledge and learning capabilities. Not for regurgitation processing. With all due respect to the OP or Mod. These are the few things we observed. Hope to read more from you. Thanks and have a wonderful day ahead. 1 Like |

several people have complained about JAMB reducing their scores. According to a twitter thread ( forgotten d name of the user) a friend got 240 and asked for remarking. He was asked to pay N100,000 which he paid. His true score was 361. JAMB now explained they had to ' moderate' the score with some other plenty English. Guy is still deciding whether to sue jamb. |
