The Elders Forum of the All Progressives Congress in the Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State has called on the party to zone its governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District.

The party elders said the Osun West Senatorial District was the only district that had not produced a governor since the return to democratic rule in 1999.



They argued that it would only be fair to allow the district to produce Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s successor.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the forum’s meeting held in Ikire, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Monday

The communiqué was signed by the forum’s Chairman and Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Ayoade Olubowale and Dr. Ajelere Ajewumi, respectively.

The communiqué read, “That members of the elders forum, having felt the pulse of the entire party members as well as voters in the community, resolved to fully back the call that the APC should pick its governorship candidate from the Osun West Senatorial District.

“That APC State Elders Forum (Igbimo Agba) should throw its weight behind the Osun-West Senatorial District in the selection of the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the interest of justice, fair play, equity and party integrity.

“That we took this decision having realised that the past governors of the state had established a rotational pattern which began with Osun West – ex-governor Isiaka Adeleke (one year, 10 months only) followed by Osun Central – ex-governor Bisi Akande (four years); ex-governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola (seven and a half years); and currently, Osun East, Governor Rauf Aregbesola (eight years).

“It is only fair that Osun West should be allowed to take its rightful turn.”
