Once Middle Belt Is Destabilised, Nigeria’s Unity Will Be Threatened – Maku by 10Ebisco: 10:25am On Mar 29, 2018
Mr. Labaran Maku, one time supervisory Minister of Defence, and now the National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has said that once the Middle Belt region is destabilised the unity of Nigeria would be in danger.

Maku, who spoke in Lafia during the 15th Anniversary of Radio Nigeria Precious FM Lafia, said Middle Belt region is the belt that holds Nigeria’s unity.

He said, “The middle belt region is the belt that holds Nigeria together, once the Middle Belt region belt is destabilised, Nigeria would divide, once the middle is divided, the unity of Nigeria is in danger.

“Once that peace is destabilised, there would be problem. That is my worry about Nigeria today because I have been in the Ministry of Defence and I understand the overwhelming responsibility, which the country is going through now.

“The reason why government was established in the first instance is that citizens concede their rights to elected representatives so that they will use that power to give them peace and stability for their society to move forward.”

Maku, who is a former supervising minister of defense, said that he would continue to make the point that all governments, especially at the state level, have their number one responsibility to peace.

“When we were here, we saw the root of this crisis taken place in 20011. We rose to the occasion and brought it down and there was stability. Today, this crisis is becoming like a diabetes, you are treating it today, tomorrow it worsens,” Maku said.

He appealing to the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, to make all the Federal Government broadcast outfits sited in Nasarawa State are back on air because they provide jobs and facilities for Nasarawa people to express themselves and as well educate the public.

It is only people who naturally like to deceive themselves think Nigeria is united. From south to north the crack on the wall is very visible especially when there is a nepostic leader as head.

All the rubbish talk that middle belt is the reason Nigeria is still one is a myth. Nigeria is still one today because the vast majority of Nigerians especially middle belt are contented with slavery. You can't tag your slavehood a quality that unites Nigeria. A situation where a certain tribe kill and massacre your tribes in middle belt knowing nothing will happen because you're slaves and you think this call for celebration?
There can only be unity when there is equality. But for Nigeria, equality is impossible, even Elrufia himself said so.
