Rubbish........why should I pay a worker N40000 monthly when a robot can do that same job at N10000. It's either workers agree to do work at the same price of robots or they leave.

Those that are protesting, ask them, if they were owners of companies and had a choice between using robots at N50 per unit output and humans at N200 let unit output, which will they choose? The former of course. They will be talking as if they won't do same if they were in the company's position, Rubbish...

Everyone should brace up to this 21st Century challenge.

Have you been to these countries to ascertain if it's true or false?

What he stated is a fact. China produces automated machines for exports but make use of human workforce.

Those are countries with their citizens welfare at heart.

Not as if they can't use it (in certain sensitive and dangerous areas like hazardous chemicals they do) but they understand it will impoverished their citizens if utilized in areas humans can carryout.

so because it will hurt, the company should continue with high costs of production, possibly losses. Talk true, if na u, wetin u go do? produce a unit at N300 to sell at N320 with manpower, or produce at N70 to sell at same N320 with robots.......... If u like, lie.

I will prefer to go for robot for effective and cheaper labour.

However I think the FG should come up with more Tax on companies who uses robot.

I stated that in my post

No matter what, programmers and software engineers are inevitable. They would always be needed....
You think humans would just leave AI alone to keep writing codes, without some sort of human intervention ? Ah , no na .Na apocalypse we dey take play be that.
Technology jobs can never go extinct, just like medicine, I have fears teaching might go extint one day, but it won't , it would just be transformed , very soon the whole world would be taking classes at home, with Virtual reality and all that.....Who would build all these ?, Electrical Engineers(Which I studied thankfully) and programmers(Which I just had to learn, because I love being creative).Programming makes you a demi god , you can create anything you can imagine .

Actually, the next frontier is the automation of knowledge work and even your beloved programming would be in the control of AI.

There is theoretically no limit to the areas that robots or artificial intelligence would take over. In future, the only jobs humans would do are the jobs that although robots can do them, we just prefer humans to do them.

This whole story is nonsense. Even in advanced economies, automation has only just barely started affecting mass employment, so is it in an ultra-low wage country like Nigeria that businesses will spend hundreds of thousands of hard-to-obtain US Dollars to replace workers who are lucky to earn a mere $200 a month? How many Nigerian businesses even have a simple website, let alone investing in fancy AI or robotics?

One might as well be complaining about how too many Nigerians are building 4-bedroom detached homes, that's how farfetched this story is. File it in the science fiction section, as machine-learning and robotics are unlikely to affect Nigeria any time soon given the low caliber of leadership this country has.

Every Owner Of Companies Will Prefer Robots, To Cut Cost Of Labour And Invariably Average Total Cost. This Will Give More Profit In The Short Run But Will Backfire In The Long Run. When Many Are Rendered Jobless, It Affects Aggregate Demand, Which Affects The Macro Economy. Poverty And Misery Indices Will Soar. Since Demand Has Been Affected, Companies Will Only Produce To No Market Because Of Poverty Due To Unemployment. Can Someone Tell Me What Will Happen To These Companies? Majority Will Fold Up Because Profit Will Nose Dive. Every Economy Needs Time To Adjust To Changes In Technology!

The paradigm is shifting. Africa need to learn how to flow with the tides of advancing technologies. Let's learn how to make the best out of automation rather than negate it. Yes, it could lead to job loss but then we can't stop the tides.

That's exactly the problem with these Fulani herdsmen, they refused to upgrade to modern day realities on ground.

This is why it’s being preached all the time. ACQUIRE SKILLS! Self improvement is the best gift you can give yourself. While you work in the factory, acquire skills that will elevate you. Why take us backwards?

This is why I have never liked labor unions. Rather than find a way to get their members prepared for a new era through retraining and reskilling, they are relying on socialist methods that are bound to fail.
Robotics will take over many jobs but new jobs will be created. Besides the horrible attitude of many Nigerian workers will push an employer to go the robotics way. Look at agriculture, many farmworkers conspire to steal and undermine the farms they work on. If a farmer can afford a robot to take over the jobs, why not?
It's high time all these labour Union's restrategize their methods as the usual methods of striking and work hold ups are not working. In South Africa, there is a union of white workers who are retraining their workers in higher technical skills. Now that's what a union should be doing

Programming is a perfect example, its one of the things robots won't take over...No matter how advance they become .
Yes I know there is A.I that can write code, but a programmer/programmers are still needed to write code.
If you want to remain relevant in this fast moving world, have at least 3 tech skills .
I can't even count how many skills I have again.Technology is life, Programming is bae kiss kiss ..Oya check my signature tongue tongue kiss kiss

All this stuff your talking is just a matter of time, they built an A.I. that can learn, I think google ... That is the biggest problem people have with A.i. Can we keep them in check?!?!? So except you are the best programmer or say top 20 in the world your job is at risk as well, you'll only be needed to monitor the A.I. for a limited time, before they finally take over. So i suggest being a porn actor, THAT is one of the job robots will NEVER take over, ain't nobody wanna see robots straff. Lol.

Nigeria is always last in knowing about sophisticated stuffs. The way we are ignorant about sophisticated stuffs, we might be the last to know about generating our own power supply if oyibos and chinkos no help us.

We lack any comprehensive plan in this nation. This is the same thing that industrialized worlds are facing but we act ignorant about it unto say e no concern me. That shows how unserious we are about major humanity events. If something is happening in naija or anywhere that oyibos think is uncontrollable or could be, they will be studying it before it really becomes their problem. Am not saying there is a solution to this AI crises but we are not even participating in the study or solution.

From my point of view, AI is a natural progression but will need regulation in a sensible way; you might as a govt say am not going to say buy or not buy these machines that make cars all by themselves or create things all by themselves but I would be flexible to make them pay for electricity and still tax them as alot than if people worked there; I can also begin to train working age people for free based on the types of company that move in an area.

On a world view, the money issue will need to be tweaked to enable human survival because it is not everyone that will study(when i mean study, i mean years of absolving that subject and practicing) science of all kinds, engineering of all kinds, computer hardware and software programming of all kinds, and maths of all kind. It is true that before you could have a botanist use their hand and other senses, and primitive instruments for judgement now a compact packaged sensor machine can do the judgement based on the parameters of the earlier study of these things. Many things are shortened or simplified and still complicated. Nations need to come together and agree to generally degrade their money/currency either by removing three, two, or one zero from their money power and inflation need to be taken care of.

I dun tire jare. Naija no even dey reason am.

Best comment so far on this thread. I keep laughing at those who keep saying automation will take over the manufacturing of good and services. When Robots finally displace humans in the workforce, who are they now expecting to consume their good and services, is it the humans they made redundant??
As they are producing Robots that will take up the jobs that humans can do, they should make robots that can pay and consume the goods and services their fellow Robots produced. Ndi ara.

It is criminal to preach against automation and compliance with ICT in year 2018. It is a paradigm shift that will affect every sector of our lives whether we like it or not. The union should brace up by telling there member the sacred truth by embracing the technology or else they will be pushed out.

I have been to severaL COMPANIES in china ranging from aviation, electronics tro consumer products manufacturing sector. They make use of robots. China has been growing in terms of robotics and AI.

Government having her people at heart doesn't mean the use of robotics should be stopped. There are 478 robots per 10,000 workers in South Korea, 315 in Japan, 292 in Germany, and 164 in the United States.

In China, I can confirm that companies do make use of robots in small task such as moving products around the company.

Buisness isn't to make profit alone but contribute to the host nation. If you can't create job then the government will be willing to frustrate you.

Are you also willing to pay huge tax for using robots when there are available man power?

LOL. Has the government said it would tax companies for preferring robots to humans? Unless we continue to fool ourselves, automation and software is already eating the world as we know it. For starters, why would any logical employer keep a workforce prone to strikes, disengagement, and comparatively lower productivity, than humans? Further still, do you realize that without correspondingly high levels of productivity (which would come largely from automation), Nigeria can never become a net exporter?

I have been saying it for years - whoever wants to thrive, and prosper in the coming years, must skill up. As Individuals, we do not need to wait for the government - almost every subject imaginable can be learnt on Youtube, and elsewhere online.

We could live in a world where robots do the work and humans stay home and improve themselves, That's also a point of view, we could also come to a conclusion that AI would be better than we ever thought and with the advent of AI long standing problems would finally be resolved. Romantic idea's, so you think its all tea and roses.
Look around you, the leaders of Nigeria could bring out all the stolen wealth and rebuild the country in less than 5 years, but do they.
So you mean the profit oriented people who fund the creation of the ai and robots will just all of a sudden have a change of heart and be leave their selfish interest to better all of mankind angry

Think again.
Oh by the way this is just a perspective.
Your romantic idea could only be enforced by a powerful nation on the world.
And with all the warring interest, do you think it won't be weaponised?, I mean bro what do you think made them sit down to start it's development in the first place?
