SternProphet:
There are third class graduates in major oil companies. They actually do better than first class. Anybody who is depending on his academic qualification in his career is a fool and will end up a failure. Leadership skills, technological skills, team skills, creative problem solving skills are what employers are looking for, not some evidence that you passed your exams well in school, although admittedly that is good indicator of discipline and conscientiousness as well.
Don't take this comment seriously, you can possess employable skills but if you are not good at your field of study what shows you are competent in such field of study?
Those skills you outlined can be possess by anyone by taking a leadership role (student representative council, SRC) while in the university or by partaking in workshops, during internships etc with these anyone can build up their communication skills ( how to sell one self in an organization especially during employment) you can build all these while studying or post graduate (personal development) but if you can't pass your exams in your field of study, what shows you can handle tasks related to your field of study.
Note : they are many people especially extrovert who are social that can easily build these skills but they are not good enough for task in their field of study. Don't be deceived. it may work in art but not in science.
