PurestBoy:this is nearly my son's attributes. The difference is that he's just 3. Im now more scared cos I think he would outgrow these at 4. My first, he graduated from friso Gold to Golden morn and likes it like he must take it after any meal. I was advised on this forum not to worry for he's still a child. I'm now wondering if I should stop the Golden morn thing. He has really improved I must confess (I won't deny God of his Glory) after I made it a point of prayers. 1 Like |

drajjay: OP, please pay close attention to the above contribution. ADHD is pretty common. That is what we routinely call stubbornness in Nigeria. ADHD is not a sickness. At worst, it can be described as a life condition. The exact cause of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) isn't fully understood, although a combination of factors is thought to be responsible. ADHD tends to run in families and, in most cases, it's thought the genes you inherit from your parents are a significant factor in developing the condition. Research suggests that both parents and siblings of a child with ADHD are four to five times more likely to have ADHD themselves. Research also suggests that people with ADHD may have an imbalance in the level of neurotransmitters in the brain, or that these chemicals may not work properly. Dopamine is the prime suspect here. From a personal experience, let me advise you a bit. DO NOT allow your child to consume beverages that contain caffeine eg. Coke. Beating or yelling at your child in this instance will be counterproductive. You will groom a violent child for the future. What an ADHD child needs in his life is lots of love and structure. You need to form a structured life for your child. This is so because he lacks this ability on his own by nature's design. But, you can and should provide a template that will enable him to learn and store positive behaviors. Your child needs very clear and concise communication. Talk to him with precision, almost as an adult. Here in my neck of the woods, ADHD is usually managed by a controlled dosage of methylphenidate eg Ritalin. You'll have to tinker with various dosages to find the optimum level for your child, and he will usually need to take a half pill every couple of hours if properly managed until the age of 10 or thereabouts. methylphenidate is administered in the early years to enable a child to learn and store the basic skills and life information that a child requires in the future. Regular tests to check his liver health should be conducted at periods determined by a physician. Managed properly, your child should be able to live a healthy and productive adult life. You may contact me if you need further information Good luck! 2 Likes 1 Share |

I am seen enough autism cases that he will be missed diagnosed as an autistic child. Anyway I will recommend his parents take him to a child behavior expert so he can be properly diagnosed. His mom needs to be a little patient. Her excessiveness is only making matter worst. Otubio: |

PurestBoy:in my own experience, I have to give you an honest advice, I learnt to thread with caution. The first reason is that this is Nigeria. Second reason, many people shout Autism, ASDH or whatever. No one has given details of how his own child was treated with therapy or drugs. The truth is that Nigerians like giving advise from what they learnt theoretically. Oga, go to God in prayers and/save money and take your family abroad once in a while, there you can actually take time and check stuff like that. Medical practice here is mainly based in speculations diagnosis are most often wrong. I have seen people get wasted on simple issues that can be tackled by mere home remedy. Yes, we pray a lot. There's a reason for that cos almost everything has failed us. The Israelite molded a golden calf as god until a leader surfaced to lead them to God. Let's be wise while in this country and Wait for a messiah that will lead us out of this douldrum |

Did you say beat him? You don't beat a child for being active,it makes his situation, you have to grow some senses and learn how to manage him without being a typical nigerian-inherently violent. Break the circle and bring up your child interactively and sensibly without having to lash out every time he acts like a child,a child that he is,innocent. You should probably think twice about all those indomie and sugary drinks you ply him with,if you do. 1 Like |

PurestBoy: As kids, we had a neighbor who appeared to bear similar traits to the ones you've raised especially the beating and crying for 2/3 seconds only. That is the major thing you wrote of that set off an alarm in my head. The child was also very hyperactive and he had a very low concentration span. Sorry to say but personally i never knew if there was a medical condition to it. We grew up and this kid continued to struggle academically and otherwise. He wasn't hyperactive anymore as a teenager/young adult but you could tell he was not growing (intellectually/emotionally and otherwise) at the same pace as his peers. Nigeria is a one kain place. I'm sure if we were in an advanced society, there would have been diagnosis and help for this young man. To at least set him aright from a young age when we began to discover some of these traits. I pray your case will be different in Jesus name. It may seem like play but i will also take this child to God in prayer if i were you. Also don't neglect medical intervention. God bless. By the way, nothing wrong being left handed. Just my opinion 1 Like |

ADHD doesn't actually mean a child would get violent and fight(that could be part of his normal attitude). the hyperactivity is laced to many problems, so taking him to the hospital for evaluation is advised... |

Kevin is most likely, predominantly choleric by temperament and sanguine, secondarily. Get a very good book on Temperament - "Why you act the way you do" or "Spirit controlled temperament" both authored by Tim Lahaye. Study it and know how to handle the boy now that there's still hope. |

Your child probably have ADHD. It signs and other neurological issues might show as he grows. Not trying to frighten you but speaking from facts. Best thing to do now is take him to a government hospital. Fly away from privates, they don't have the power to handle these things. It's not an abnormal thing, many kids suffer it in Nigeria without knowing and they suffer it. All it needs is management, love, special care and medical care too. Good luck. There's nothing to fear. |

Looks like ADHD. Get a diagnosis. Cut out sugar. You might want to supplement with magnesium and l- theanine for calm. |

Let me state this categorically....absolutely nothing is wrong with your son. You see I have a son and a daughter as well. My son will be 4 by o October will my daughter will be 1 by June. My son is definitely more active than yours (just saying ) he sometimes annoys me. I had to resort to use the cane. While I was concerned like you are and literally complaining, my mum sat me down and told me the story of my life. She said I was much worse and more active and playful than my son at his age. She told me at that time she had to use her wrapper to tie me to either a chair or herself as the case may be. My point is generally at this age children are mostly active (I know this for a fact coz I have being around and involved with them) and also sometimes it's a trait they inherited from either of the parent. Trust me this is mostly true. It's a phase. Just learn to manage it. How? Engage him. Let him know he's not the only one that needs to watch the TV and know when to watch and allow others to watch and of course discipline him if you have to... Most times the one of the parent has to be form on the children while the other is mild. If bother are too firm it's not too good and if both are too lenient it's also not the best...My two cents. I think u should reduce the cartoons he watch. They also have negative effect on them. My Nephew almost jumped down for a storey building because of PJ max. Even his concentration in sch dropped until the parents reduced their cartoon watching to only weekends. It wasn't easy bit it was worth it. However I still advice u see a child Therapist since he's already fighting u |
