Reports reaching KikioTolu has it that Security forces and members of the Shiite movement clashed in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) earlier today, though we cannot yet confirm if the clash has escalated into widespread violence.

This report is coming after Shiite protesters stormed the Institute For Peace and Conflict Resolution Abuja, in Abogo Largema a Central business district area in Abuja.

The protestersare demanding the release of Shiiteleader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and lamenting his continued detention without trial for over two years.

Men of the Nigeria Police Force fired teargas in order to forcefully disperse the protesters. This eventually led to resistance, forcing the protesters to throw stones at the police patrol vehicle.
