Super Eagles’ gaffer, Lars Lagerback is still analyzing the core of his provisional list and has explained his exclusion of Siena of Italy central defender, Michael Chukwuwike Odibe.

Lagerback said in a dialogue with brilafm.net that the defenders at his disposal are better than Odibe, and says it is too early to throw the former First Bank of Lagos kid into the World Cup stage, while predicting that the lad will come in handy for Nigeria in future.

“I think in the central defence, we have better players than him and we can keep him for the future. For now, he can develop and grow with his club, where he can get better.

“That’s why we didn’t pick him,” said the former national coach of Sweden.

Nigeria Football Federation technical committee chairman, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi has explained why Michael Eneramo and Femi Ajilore were dropped from the Super Eagles provisional list.
Ogunjobi stated in a chat with brilafm.net that Eagles head coach, Lars Lagerback said Eneramo and Yakubu Aiyegbeni are both power strikers and he had to select only one, while noting that Ajilore and Sani Kaita play the same way, but stated that the Russia-based player marks better.

“We also asked questions concerning Eneramo, at which he told us catego0rically that Eneramo and Yakubu play the same way. They are both bulky strikers.

“He said there is no way he can have two burly strikers in South Africa. He explained that he has seen what Peter Utaka is doing in Denmark , where he is scoring regularly.

“He says Peter Utaka has a smaller physique than Yakubu and Eneramo, and could be useful where we need speed and pace.

“He says Ajilore and Kaita are playing the same way, but Kaita is marking better. That’s why he picked Kaita,” the former NFA scribe submitted.

ajilore and kaita play the same way??

Aside the 23 man factor that generates a huge deal of debate, I'm also wondering what type of formation Lars will adopt. It's most likely going to be a 4-3-3 based on the current player selection. Nonetheless, he's an advocate of the classic 4-4-2 (one that I prefer) or 4-5-1 depending on the opponent.

If Lars decides to play a 4-3-3, the midfield would be composed of: Milel - Etuhu (or Kaita) - Haruna (or Kanu or K. Uche)

If its 4-4-2, I believe it should be: Mikel - Haruna; However, based on the coach's last itw, I'm sure he'll pick 2 defensive midfielders.
