I knew something was dangerously wrong with Nigerian farm produce, they didn't taste natural at all like they use to, especially beans, yams, oranges, and banana. The proliferation of unidentified chemicals from China is so bad to the extent that farmers in the remotest villages are using weed killers to clear their land for planting, instead of good old Cutlass and available cheap labors. |

That's true especially for the beans. I remember few years ago, UK or so reject our beans after it was found to contain chemicals that are dangerous to human consumption. The beans that was to be exported found its way to our local market. and who will buy it? You and I. Na we go chop all the rejected beans, God EPP us.

2.) Most Nigerian farmers, if not all of them use a chemical called "Sniper" as added ingredient for pest control. Sniper is potent and it scares me. It is a DDVP, 2,2-Dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate compound. An organophosphate that readily binds to the lungs and kidney causing cancer. It is almost in everything you eat in Nigeria. Even the looters eat it too. Solution: [s]You are on your own here because it is everywhere.[/s] Grow your own produce! 3.) Weevil controls in Beans with Aluminum phosphide (AlP). This is the most dangerous food pollution in Nigeria. Because weavil can destroy the entire year harvest of the farmer in few days. They drop tablets of Aluminum Phosphide inside each bag of beans. They think that one tablet is enough to drive weevils away from the bag of beans. Yes they are right, but that one tablet can drive weevil away from an entire Silo or 50 tone of beans. Do the maths yourselves. Unfortunately, it is now one of the most common causes of food poisoning in Nigeria. It liberates lethal phosphine gas when it comes in contact either with atmospheric moisture or with hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Solution: Wash the beans after parboiling with hot water as many times as possible. 2 Likes |

Solutions 2. Grow your own food. Everybody in Nigeria should have access to at least a plot of farmland as a matter of Act. 3. For the weevils, the tablets are usually kept and sealed in an envelope. It doesn't really affect the beans. But it's best to wash rice and beans with plenty of water before cooking. Even vegetables should be well rinsed because of pesticides. 1 Like |

Adieza:control measure to number four - heat the bean in water until about 40 degree Celsius and discard the boiling water. cook with fresh water. Go for beans which are not entirely free from weevil except that the stock is freshly supplied to the market. |

These fruits u mentioned depends on the region it comes from. States which are well know in Nigeria that plant some of this crops plant them at is actual season. For Plantain and Pineapple Edo state have them in abundance at thier actual seasons. They don't do chemicals. |

Gerrard59: If you are into science or science student, you so wrong saying nothing is wrong with GM foods "scientifically". Nothing beats natural foods planted and cultivated at it's season. It was scientifically proof that the Benin republic pineapple is not has rich as the Nigeria one. It was tested on wounds on, the Nigeria ones was healing the wounds extremely faster than the Benin ones. 1 Like |

Due to increasing death toll related to cancer in developed countries. A lot of foreigners, Americans mostly have started to be conscious of what they eat. Check YouTube and see tonnes of videos of a lot of them going back to the root (farming). in other to live healthily and sustainably. I just finished my final exams last month, and on getting back home, I noticed that our newest Tenant was always carrying gas canisters in and out of his place daily. Just last week his wife died of cancer, I knew her for a very short time. I have never seen someone die of cancer before this, and I do not intend to die that way. such a pity |

Let's not propagate false information especially point 1. Calcium carbide is NOT a ripening agent however ethylene gas is. As a kid, maybe like me, you were fascinated by that chemical reaction that occurred when you took a piece of carbide and put into water, covered with a can and lit a match to create an explosion. Well, the ripening agent is actually the ethylene gas and it has been long used as this. Calcium Carbide in itself doesn't ripen the fruit. For your information, some fruits naturally emit this gas and therefore you keep them away from other fruits so that they don't cause them to ripen. Just thought to share and quell this calcium carbide nonsense. |
