This post is all about electoral malpractice in Nigeria, it causes, effects, possible solutions to stop it and punishment for anyone engaged in electoral malpractices, election rigging, falsification of votes and any other electoral related manipulation.

What makes democracy acceptable in any society is when people are allowed to exercise their franchise and right to vote the candidate of their choice.

Democracy is all about everybody having his or her own personal franchise.

Since Nigeria got her independence in 1960 I do not think it has witnessed any free and fair election (if there have been, then it would be few).

Elections or voting in Nigeria and in Africa in general have always been characterized by rigging, falsification of votes and even bloodshed.

And that is why most Nigerians do not bother about casting their votes in the ballot boxes because they now have the mindset that their votes do not count and that it is the highest bidder who wins the election and not the person with the highest number of votes.

Now, in this post we will talk about everything you need to know about election malpractices and rigging, the causes of election malpractice, its effect, possible solutions to stamping it out of Nigeria and punishment for those involved in electoral malpractice and rigging.

What is electoral malpractice?
According to the oxford dictionary, electoral malpractice is defined as the manipulation of electoral processes and outcomes so as to substitute personal or partisan benefit for the public interest.

It simply means when a party or individual manipulates, changes or falsifies the number of votes cast in a polling unit during elections so as to satisfy his or her own personal desire instead of the masses.
