Breaking: FG bans movement of herdsmen in Benue, Taraba state

The federal government has banned the the movement of herdsmen in the country, starting with Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna and Plateau.

The decision was reached at the National Economic Council (NEC) presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday, April 26, The Cable reports.

The NEC comprises state governors and relevant ministries of government and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state who disclosed this to journalist at the end of the meeting held at the presidential villa in Abuja said the said council approved the creation of ranches across the country.

He said the five mainly affected states which have witnessed killings from the herdsmen/farmers clashes, are expected to make land available for ranches.

Why should they make land available for ranches. Can't they buy land. Meanwhile did they have to wait for such amount of casualty before banning open grazing. The amount of blood needed has been reached I guess.

Yes, it will for the moment. It seems you don't understand these vampires and their mafia style. This is their modus operandi; cause a massive problem, make it appear like there is no solution, allow the agony to fester then bring up a solution when the situation appears hopeless and boom you have your way and also appear like a savior!! All these killings in Benue state is political and believe me, the army has the capacity to quell it within 2 days yet the government made it appear like the herdsmen are invincible! The tactics won't succeed and they can't force any state to adopt creation of ranches for Fulani herdsmen.

Are they trying to force ranches on states?
A state can decide it doesn't want to partition it's land for any ranch.
Cow rearing is a biz and any serious businessman should be able to look for funds to buy to start or grow his business.They should therefore get funds to buy or lease land for ranching on their own.
Otherwise pig,chicken and goat farmers should also be apportioned lands to grow their livestock!

The killing going on in Benue and other North central State calls for proactive step from the Federal Government.

Banning movement of Cattle's and herders in the affected state is a welcome development.
A census should be taken of all herdsmen in each state. and the security agencies should get them disarm.

Government must hold the miyaty Allah responsible if they can not account for the activities of their members.

Going forward, Ranching is the modern way of rearing cattle's all over the world. Government through the CBN, should provide soft loan for this purpose.
Again Government must check the unrestrained movement of people across the Northern border.
The killing of any human being in any part of this country diminishes our humanity, we must not only condemn it, we must push to end it. This is not about political party or religion, rather about our humanity.
