The company behind the Facebook data leaked saga Cambridge Analytica is shutting down. This is coming after months of backlash and accusation of improperly obtaining of personal information. Cambridge Analytica harvested about 87 million Facebook users personal details to sway the outcome of the US 2016 presidential election and the UK Brexit referendum. The data where obtain using a quiz app.

CEO Alexander Nix, caught on camera on in March, explaining how the firm could swing elections around the world. Cambridge Analytica has also worked on election campaigns in countries like Italy, Kenya and Nigeria. The company is shutting down due to lack of business after the scandal which it claims any wrong doing.

Clarence Mitchell, a spokesman for the company who explained why Cambridge Analytica is shutting down said;

Over the past several months, Cambridge Analytica has been the subject of numerous unfounded accusations and, despite the company's efforts to correct the record, has been vilified for activities that are not only legal, but also widely accepted as a standard component of online advertising in both the political and commercial arenas," it said.

Despite Cambridge Analytica's unwavering confidence that its employees have acted ethically and lawfully... the siege of media coverage has driven away virtually all of the company's customers and suppliers.

As a result, it has been determined that it is no longer viable to continue operating the business.

The British parliamentary committee investigating Cambridge Analytica has expressed skepticism about the company shutting down. According to MP Damian Collins, who spoke to BBC said;

We've got to make sure that this is not an attempt to run and hide, that these companies aren't closing down to try and avoid being rigorously investigated

Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg personally apologize for the data leaked but Cambridge Analytica still denies any wrong doing. The Facebook CEO was quoted as saying that the privacy scandal was a "breach of trust". British parliamentary has said it will still continue with its investigation.
