The role of cooperate organizations is phenomenal to the development of the society. Their social corperate responsibilities includes seeing to the welfare of the host communities in the provision of social amenities that enhances their standard and sundry assistance. Such had eluded Abia as most of the cooperate organizations in Abia rather chose never to come and invest into the lives of those who house them.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Ikpeazu having seen with dismay the neglect of such organizations engaged some of them with an insistence for these companies to invest in their host communities.

Such efforts has started yielding fruits with Total upstream Nigeria LTD, an oil firm resident in Abia State embarked on a ground breaking of the 'Half Way Home' for women development skill aqusition center for the vulnerable women in Abia State.

The site located at Ogurube layout, behind CBN building, Umuahia, is a Social investment of the firm which shall serve as a resting place for people in distress or vulnerable.

While performing the ground breaking ceremony of the construction site of the women development center with facilities of 5 offices, 1 bed-sick bay, a two hundred sweater auditorium, four trade training areas among others, the Governor of Abia State Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu who was represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development Barr. Uche Ihiediwa extolled this gesture of the company aimed at touching the lives of the less previledged and noted that by this singular act, the firm has lived up to the scriptural admonisions of helping the needy and the poor and urged many other firms to key behind this project to ensure that they site their own socaio investment projects to affects the lives of their host communities positively.

While addressing his audience, the group Managing Director/Chief Executive of Total E&P Nigeria LTD Mr. Nicholas Tereaz stated that project when completed will serve as a unique opportunity for young women to acquire various entrepreneurship skills to enable them augment their family income and State in general. He also noted that the project will be completed in record time and stated that through Governor Ikpeazu's drive for rapid development in Abia State, the company will also kick-start the building of a model secondary school in the month of June in Old Umuahia.

Reacting during the occasion, the commissioner for Women affairs and social development in Abia State Ugoeze Kate Adaku Onyemachi recalled that haboring returnees from Libya recently was a greater challenge for this State as it was difficult to place them on rehabilitation programs before locating and sending them to their various households. She used the occasion to call on the company never to relent on their efforts to ensuring that Abia remains a focal point for their investment.

Recall that in the recent, owing to the clement economic conditions made possible by Governor Ikpeazu, many firms have indicated interest to partner the State while others have started laying foundation stones for their companies. The Governor also has place the enablers for the growth of businesses such as the building of the Abia Business House and many roads for seamless movement of goods and services while security has formed a major part of the Governor Ikpeazu's administrative drive.

In a vote of thanks, the permanent secretary, ministry of women affairs and social development Dr. Mrs. Nene Chikezie appreciated the efforts of Total Upstream in implanting soul rescuing projects projects in Abia and urged them not to relenting in their efforts in putting smiles on the faces of the masses.
